I'm finally an S2000 owner...
I've been waiting a month to find a good deal on an S2000. Have been watching Autotrader and Craigslist like a hawk for a 300 miles radius
One popped up locally on Craigslist and I went to look at it yesterday. It was a 2006 with 46k miles for $15,000. It was in good shape, but there were a few things that changed my mind about it. The suspension was really low. I know that's the "cool" thing but I prefer to have it how Honda intended, and the front bumper was scuffed on the bottom from hitting bumps. They did offer to give me the OEM springs. Also, the rear tires were completely bald. They offered a new set with the car. The owner did a wire tuck and relocated the battery. Looked like a clean job, but I've dealt with other people's wiring before and it's usually a headache. Emblems were shaved, which I may end up doing, but again I'd prefer stock. What really changed my mind was there was an aftermarket intake...without the filter. I know it was likely that not too much harm was done, but if they're willing to drive it without an air filter it doesn't build trust in how it's been treated. So, I told him no thanks.
Today, one popped up at the local dealership. 2008 with only 17,091 miles on it. It's $26,000ish plus the usual fees and such, which isn't exactly a good deal, but it was local and very mint, and I've been growing extremely impatient. My only complaints were that it has red interior, which I'm still not sure that I like, and the rear bumper doesn't line up too well where it meets the rear fender on one side. It's not "horrible" but it's not as flush as the other side. I haven't checked the carfax, maybe it was in a wreck, but it is just a small annoyance. Other than that, it is MINT. It looks brand new. I applied for financing and was denied, which didn't surprise me. My credit score isn't stellar, but I've never missed credit card or previous loan payments and make plenty of money.
Went home with heavy heart and fear it would be sold. Applied with my bank, and, was approved
Hallalujahs! Called the dealership and put a deposit down. I've had two S2000s sold out from under me so far so wanted to make sure it doesn't happen again. Unfortunately, the closest branch for my bank is in Kentucky, so I have to drive 130 miles there to get the check, 130 miles back, hope a ride 30 miles to the dealership, and take the S home.
Will be posting about trading red for black interior, as well as trading the 5 spoke for the AP2 wheels (preferably black).
Oh happy day!

Got it today
Doesn't feel any faster than my CRX, but it's definitely got more modern luxuries and is sexier...
Took off the dealer decal as well as the adhesive gunk from the original dealership. Then removed the stickers and gunk the dealership felt like plastering on every window. Finally, wiped the birdshit off the fender
Tomorrow, full bath, and a Royal Purple oil change.

Here's a few phone pics. I'll get some nice DSLR ones when I'm able to get all the goodies to make it shine.

First start
At the dealership:

Yesterday was driving it down one of the country roads and some guy comes FLYING out of a trailer park, slams on the brakes, slides right through the stop sign and into the road. Me and a car coming the other direction had to slam on our brakes. Then he floors it again and nearly hits my car fishtailing. I was SUPER PISSED. Didn't even have 100 miles on it since I bought it, and if I had drove slightly faster down that road I could have been t-boned.

Some better pics from today.

And the family photo. The CRX has a built LS-VTEC, and honestly I think it's faster.

Next I'm going to buy a POS old Toyota Tacoma or something to drive around and keep these parked. These two are my "collection." One of the sales guys knew what I was doing. "That'll be a great addition to your collection!"
