Default Introduction/Build diary

Hi All ,

I figured It was time I made a formal introduction. My name Is Adam and Im a new owner of a berlina black MY00 s2k in SoCal. I purchased the car back in May of this year with a blown motor. The Previous owner ran the car low on oil and spun a rod bearing/scoured 2 cylinders. I picked the car up for super cheap (under 5k) and rebuilt the motor. This is just a rundown of what went into rebuilding the motor.

The rebuild started with tearing apart the motor and seeing what was salvageable. The #2 rod bearing was almost completely gone and 2 scoured cylinders:

The crank was able to be saved by being turned .010 under on the rods. Mains are STD:

Then it was off to RS machine to have the block sleeved:

Add in some Arias 11.5:1 Pistons and InlinePRO rods:

And Add in some coated ACL bearings to finish off the short block:

For the head I went with Supertech Bronze guides, Intake/Exhaust valves, Dual Springs, and Ti retainers. Also cleaned up the short turn and blended the seats:

Long block is assembled:

Stripped and painted the Valve cover with wrinkle black:

Other new parts included Oil pump, timing chain and oil pump chain, TCT, All chain guides, water pump, thermostat, oil cooler, and all gaskets and seals.

Here is the motor just before it went back into the car:

Motor back in the car:

Then came the setback. Previous owner had the transmission rebuilt by a local shop awhile back, but When I pulled the trans it looked like the input shaft seal was leaking. So I pulled the trans apart and found that the guy had installed the input shaft seal wrong (from the wrong side) and also didnt have the Shift select return spring in right:

Well, when I was getting ready to put everything back together, I noticed that there was something missing (oil pump plate):

Went to the local Honda dealer to order the part. Ended up being on back order. Well 4 weeks and $3.63 later I had and oil pump plate:

Once I got the last of the trans parts I could finish up the car. I had the flywheel resurfaced and installed a new clutch. I Went with an Exedy Disk, and OEM pressure plate.

I also ended up breaking the 11 year old knock sensor but not to worry a trip to the local stealership and $145 later (total ripoff!!) I could finish up the install.

So after almost 4 months of work the car is back together and couldn't be happier. Started it up late Friday night with zero problems and have put close to 200 miles on it since then. Im in love with the motor, it revs really free and feels really strong.
My only worry is that the transmission is toast and gonna be on its way out soon since it was missing parts for the oil pump for 40k+ miles. I guess I'll find out soon enough
