Angry Just Bought an S2K, and then I get home to find:

The oil light never came on during the 50 miles I drove it home. The oil was not even touching the dipstick. I put in 2.5qts just to bring the level to the middle of the XXX's. What should I do? The car is under extended warranty but I don't have any service receipts from the previous owner. The engine isn't making any loud or weird sounds. I feel like I want to cry.

Oil light on the s2k only comes on from loss of oil pressure. You can have one quart or so and still have pressure... It just won't do crap to protect your car.

If you bought it from a dealership make them tow it back and pull the oil pan and look for metal shavings. Also have them scope the cylinders for damage, bearings etc.

If you bought it privately, about the only thing you can do is demand your money back.

Wow a dealership letting a car go off the lot that low on oil is just crazy.

I bought it private party, I should have specified. The previous owner doesn't know anything about cars apparently. (even the dirt under the hood is stock).

Don't overreact, folks. More than likely, nothing happened to your car. Agreed though... being down near a quart is very risky.

Unfortunately, this can be a hard lesson for pre MY04 owners. These cars do have an appetite for oil. You have to be anal about watching the dipstick on early model S2000s.

Anyway, if you need some reassurance, you might want to go get your compression checked and that'll give you a good feeling that no damage was done. There's no easy way to be sure though.

While you're at this, it's a good time to learn how to change your own oil. It's probably a good idea to drain what you've got, and start with fresh oil and a new Honda PCX filter. It's fairly easy to change the oil on the S2000, except that jacking the car can be tricky if you don't have the right kind of floor jack. xviper has a do-it-yourself oil change thread somewhere...

Changed the oil. My dealer wanted $11 for the PCX filter. Can I buy them online for cheap? Where?

man, that dealer was trying to rip you a new one

a local dealer here wanted to charge me $11.50, but I was like, "Other dealers only charge me $8..."
Parts mgr : "$8? Ok, I'll do that."

dammit... should have gone lower.... heheheh

but anyways, you can get it real cheap from hardtopguy. I didn't want to wait or pay shipping so it was kinda worth it for me.
