Looking for an s2k
Hey guys, my name is Jeremy and i just moved to Tempe, Arizona! Im originally from the Minnesota/Nebraska area!! Currently i am an Evo owner, but i am looking for an s2k as a daily driver!!
Im looking to get into a turbo'd s2k! I love working on cars and doing most of the mods myself, so buying a stock one and turning it turbo would be great too!! Im definately new to the honda platform, ive always been a DSM guy so it will be fun to play with something else!! Im looking forward to rear wheel drive for sure!!
what are some of the main things i should know before i get involved?? Anything in particular i should look for when looking at them? Any week points on any of them?!
Which is better, the older ones or the newer ones!? Ive heard the older ones can rev higher and have a better transmission!? is that true!?
Im looking to go for about 500 hp, is that possible on stock block?!
well here is a picture of the evo, im sure id get asked haha!!

Yeah, i was thinking a 6262 with a custom kit! I have a buddy who owes me a lot of money that is a custom fabricator!! who has designed many kits for me in the past on my evo, also is300, and a few more things!!
ill have him do custom ic pipes, manifold, exhaust, intake and a roll cage!! here are a few examples of his work!!
6262 manifold for evo

So i was going thru some of the FI forums and there was almost an exact match to what i want to do, 6262 head work ect ect ect!!! and what i saw was right where i want to be, 5-600 hp but only sub300 tq?? how can I get the torque up to more then that!? im guessing maybe there are stoker kits out there? But from what i know most of the time, when you stroke out a engine you lose rpms, and i was to be able to rev to 10k ish!
As far as DSMs in the past, i have had a 99 gsx a 97 gst 95 rs turbod and a 90 gsx and my Evo
I have been seaching a lot in the sections, i really havent found the specific answers i want, but have found a lot of good questions! As far as all the Fab work, that really is the most expensive part, and i have that taken care of!! I do all my own work, as i used to own a shop, and do all the work on all my cars! And as far as tuner, i have one of the most bad ass tuners as a friend of mine, amung many connections in the business!!
You made a lot of good points as far as hp to torque, makes a lot of sense!! i already pretty much know where im going with it, just need to find the right one!!
From what i have been reading, the AP1 transmission with the AP2 motor is a good combination!? Due to longer gears!? am i reading that correctly?!
Basically what i plan on doing is...
Full head work, ported, springs retainers and cams... pte 6262 with all custom Fab work on the exhaust mani, exhaust, IC pipes, intake, Intake manifold, Injectors dual fuel pump and new lines... AEM EMS I planned on upgrading the rear end, not sure what route i will go, and a good clutch! Oh yeah i would be tuned on e85 as well!! i should easily and safely be able to get 500-600... ill also have a pump gas map which i believe should be able to be around 500 no problem as well
I have a Twin Disc in my evo, and i drive it all the time, but it isnt very friendly in traffic for sure, so i want to try and stick with a single disc because this car will be my daily driver!! Im used to high horsepower cars, daily driving, ect so that isnt the problem!!
What do you guys think!? Is there more i would need to do!?
MODS: if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it!! Thank you!!

The main gearing differences between the AP1 and AP2 are due to a shorter secondary gear reduction that makes 1st through 4th approximately 4% shorter. The 5th is 1% shorter on the AP2 and 6th is 2% longer.
You can find the specs near the bottom of the page here: http://www.honda.com/newsandviews/article....id=200707112298
As far as "good" combination, that's total preference. If you're hitting a 500-600whp target, longer gearing would probably be preferable. Stock gearing in either vehicle would be fine though (and both are short relative to most other cars).
I don't know much about FI so I'm of limited help for the more technical stuff, but conservatively tuned on E85 those goals should be possible. Not sure if you've seen it, but the FI guys have a power chart showing different setups:

Looks like about half the guys in the range you're looking at have dropped CR, which may be something else you want to consider (not sure if you'd be running E85 exclusively).

Thank you for all the help Charlie!! I will have dual maps possible 3 or 4 really on my laptop, most of the time i will be running pump probably, since e85 isnt 100% available all the time!! But im a huge fan of e85 i have been running it in my evo for 3 years now!!!
i appreciate all the help!!!
What do you think about rear ends!! Ive been looking at a few from Carbonetics, not sure which i want to go with!!
i do a wide variety of driving, i do road race, streets, dd, and also like to go to the strip everyonce in a while, so which one do you thing would be the most neutral!? 1.5 lsd??
