I know it looks like a bunch of clean examples on autotrader, but so far my experience locally with "clean" cars has not been good. There are two posted on this site for sale right now that look like what I want and I'd be more inclined to believe they are actually clean. Just haven't built up the courage to fly out to see a car.

Clean looking mk2, I was really thinking about getting one but they are getting on in age so if you don't find a well cared for one you end up with monthly care costs that can get high... Which is the reason I'm moving from my mk1 (basically costs 400 a month to keep it on the road)

And... here she is. I picked her up about 3 weeks ago. Details as follows

Year : 2007
Color: GPW (Red/Black interior)
Miles: 33,000 miles
Cost: $23,500
Mods: Stock
Condition: 9 out of 10 (Has a rip in the top - with a clean patch job - and visible wearing on the inside of the top, two paint scratches on the rear bumper)

Probably over paid a little because 1)buying local in the bay area 2)lowish miles 3)no dings, dents, or repainted body panels, matching vins 4)color...

 

Looks like we have a few past MK1 MR2 owners that went to an S2K. It's definitely understandable given their go-kart nature. I had an '86na and '88sc. Both were amazing cars. They were super reliable, great on gas (except when that SC light came on!), and really fun. The MR2 community was awesome also. I was around during the days when it was just an email list (was on the SC mailing list also).

To the OP, you're gonna love the S2K. I'm guessing it's how an MK1 with a 4ag 20v would drive like possibly.

I had a 91 MR2 turbo before buying my S, quite a difference, but worth it.
