My Overdue Hello!
Hello S2KI world! I'm a few weeks overdue for my introduction since I had eye surgery a couple days after my new purchase. So I do apologize if there are any misspellings or grammatical errors; I am only slightly still seeing double... Any who, a little background on me, then I will get to the car! My name is Jake, been in the Army for a little over 3 years and currently reside in Texas. Married to the love of my life who is currently in Basic Training for the Army. No kids, just two Daschaunds (Doxins/Weiner dogs) that keep me company and basically act like kids. Born in Colorado, raised in Michigan. Some day I hope to live and stay in Colorado. Here is a quick video of what I do in the Army. (Video is not mine, buddies FB videio, hope you can view)

I basically drive a Mobile Launch Rocket System (track vehicle that moves and shoots long range missles/rockets) I can essentially detroy an entire grid square (1KM x 1KM) on command. I would say its any boy/mans dream to be in a vehicle and hit a big red button and watch it go boom!
I have previously owned a Nissan Cube and 2 Ford Escort ZX2's. Both 2000, one yellow and one red. My yellow one was my first car. I auto-x'd when I could and loved driving her. She was a manual and a lot of fun for a first car. I didn't do too much modding other than header, clutch, ac and power steering delete, and full wire tuck. I did replace the engine once and clutch twice though, so I definitely knew my way around the car. A couple pics as follows.
My second ZX2 was fully modded from intake to head to exhaust. Along with coilovers, body kit, wheels and tires. She had some pep and was a blast to drive.

Sadly I blew the head gasket, replace it, then blew the piston rings... I was fed up and parted her out just 3 months ago. I was ready for something new!!!
I knew I wanted something fun (RWD) and sporty (coupe). My options were the S2000, MX-5 (Miata), BRZ/FRS, or even something vintage like MG Midget, Triumph Spitfire, or classic 66 Mustang I think there are already too many Miatas on the road and I found some nice MGs, Triumphs, and Mustangs but I think I will save those for my Mid-Life Crisis. I was really in to the BRZ and have been following it since it's release. I finally test drove one in February and was overall pleased. Great power. Great Looks. New. Warrantied. What not to like??? Well, I didn't like the height of the rear deck lid (part behid rear seats, usually where speakers are). I'm only 5'4" and the deck lid seemed to block my entire view of traffic behind me. I didn't feel comfortable changing lanes. So, I kinda gave up and helped my wife to pick out a new car. Other than me driving it while my red ZX2 was broken, our Nissan Cube is basically her car.

I bought it a few months before getting married hoping to Show Mod it, but soon realized it just wasn't in the budget... My wife decided on a 2013 VW Passat and I was more than okay with it. We decided I would purchase it a few months in to her being at basic training so we made sure we could save up a little for a down payment.
Thankfully, we originally wanted a TDI (diesel) for the 40 MPG. After some over research though, I calculated that in a 5 year ownership, the 40 MPG diesel compared to the 32 MPG standard was not worth the price. So I told my wife we would wait to buy so she can repick her trim levels after basic and before we buy. So I was back on the market of browsing what car to buy when I stumbled across my new little beauty. I was browsing S2000s nationwide via craigslist, ebay, and autotrader. I don't like buying used with over 50k miles so the prices I was finding were above 16-18k. I just so happened to find a 2000 NFR for sale with only 39k miles. She also happened to only be listed for $13,900. The haymaker- Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan where my parents still live! I had my parents test drive it, I purchased for $13 even because of some paint chips and tear in soft top, and my parents TTL'd it for me. I go home for 2 weeks in end of May to driver her back to Texas!
Thankfully, I had test driven an '04 in Austin a week before finding this car. That was when I fell in love with the S2000 and its quirky driving. The car comes with a Megan Racing header in to a straight test pipe with stock muffler and a Tanabe STB. According to seller, the car had never seen rain or snow and was garage kept its whole life. The only problems were some paint chips in the front bumper and a tear/stretch near the door jam area and a small tear in the window. Pictures to follow-

My "first mod" will be a countersunk knob. Not sure which brand yet, but I'll decide before I go home! So far, I haven't seen any others for sale near this mileage and price so I am very satisfied with it! Please do let me know what you think. I'm excited to be apart of the boards. I think I have already spent about 36 hours trolling the forums and galleries. Let the fun begin!
