After thinking about a 2008 S2000 I passed on 10 years ago, I finally purchased an S2000 - a 2001 Silverstone Metallic originally delivered to Honda City in Liverpool, NY by its original (and only other) owner. It was moved down to Georgia after three years where it spent the rest of its time. It had over 129k miles when purchased last month, but I purposely chose to buy this car knowing it wasn't a collector's item. I wanted a car to drive rather than trying to keep the miles low. As such, it had a few things wrong that I'm getting corrected:
1) Cracked windshield - oddly enough, the crack started on the inside, dead center. It was as if someone poked it with a yard tool or golf club.
2) Rust under the driver's seat - small spot, but a bubble could be seen. It's right where the carpet retainer and the floor board come into contact. The retainer must've come loose over time and the metal-to-metal contact didn't help.
3) Rust under the battery tray - probably the car's worst blemish. I believe the previous owner let the car sit too long and the batter leaked. Unfortunately the acid wasn't properly cleaned off.
4) Front bumper damage - another head scratcher, my best guess is that something got caught on the bottom.
5) Rear bumper damage - not clearly visible, but there is a small crack near in the license plate area.
As for the rest of the car, the seats had minor wear, the cupholder lid was faded, and there's a tiny bug that died in the instrument cluster. But the important parts (to me) are here: the engine runs well, the transmission is still perfection, a relatively new set of Firestone Indy 500s, and the top is in great shape. I'm looking forward to driving it with the top down and hopefully going back to an autocross event or two.
Looks like it was well maintained. Mine has 81k on it and I bought it for the same reason you did, to drive. I didn't want to be too concerned about adding miles to it or being obsessive about things like that. I've already done that with other cars so there is freedom in just driving and maintaining. It needs a couple of things but they can wait.
