My roommates mother has a 2001 s2000 with 150,000 miles. She was in a minor fender bender last week and has decided to sell the car instead of getting it fixed. Long story short I am thinking about picking this up for 2500 cash. My question is, am I stupid for even contemplating not buying this? From the looks of the attached picture, I don't think it's anything beyond exterior damage. It runs fine and drives as is.

I just want to get some thoughts and possible concerns from the S2K enthusiasts, I am excited to become one myself!

Hard to tell from just the one picture but youre gonna need a fender, bumper, headlight and probably the bracket for the headlight at the least. You can search the classifieds here and probably find some deals.
Im going to check it out tomorrow. Just found out it pulls pretty bad but I am hoping it's just out of alignment. I'm going to pull it up on ramps and see if I can locate any noticeable damage. Super stoked!

I checked out the car today and everything beyond the exterior looks great. The tires sit at equal angles, the front subframe and frame look solid, control arms, suspension, it all looks great. It is however throwing a code now after the collision.
The intake boot cracked right where it connects to the throttle body, leaving about a 1/4 gap halfway around free to suck air straight in. When you slightly throttle up from idle, it will choke and die at low rpms. Could that extra air dumping in throw off the MAP enough to kill the engine and throw the CEL? It idles fine, and will run when throttled more aggressively and kept in mid to high rpms.
After seeing this thing, I really want it

Hell I'd buy it for $2,500 and fix it up.
