Default New guy from Chicago

Hey guys.

Picked up this 2000 S2000 (lol) about two weeks ago. Sadly haven't driven it much because of the weather in Chicago. Only got to drive it the first day. Debating taking it out today, even though it's wet and the roads aren't quite salt free. I'm really itching to drive it. It was a one owner garage queen, looked absolutely immaculate underneath when I was checking it out before purchase. 51k miles, one owner vehicle. It came with a pristine poster of a car configured just like it. Got it from a Porsche dealership who didn't quite know what they had. Car appears to be solid and I can't wait to start driving it around.

Here it is next to my daily driver, a 2003 Pontiac Bonneville that I've had for ages. 170k miles, 150k of which are put on my me.

Safely tucked away in the garage for now.

Excited to get some routine maintenance done to this thing. Basic fluid changes and a thorough detail and cleaning. I would love to get rid of the carpet on the center console and replace it or cover with some red or black vinyl/leather. Some wheels and lowering springs, but much farther in the future. Has a few small issues. The top has a bunch of wind noise despite being a newer top with a glass window. When you pull down on the little hand grip in the middle, the wind noise stops. There is a small paint chip in corner of the rear bumper that I think I'll just touch up with some touch up paint. The key remote doesn't work, so I have to use the key to open the car at the moment. The remote light flashes but the car doesn't respond.

Been reading through a few threads on here with basic info far before I got the car, but if you guys feel any are really good reads for a newbie, please send them along.

Thanks in advance.

Welcome. You'll find that the Chicagoland (Upper Midwest) group is fairly knowledgeable and helpful. I've happily been hanging with them for 18 years. You may also want to look at our S2000 groups, especially the Upper Mid-West S2000 Owners on Facebook.

We just had a local meet and folks are together at the Chicago Car Show tonight. I expect that the "spring tech day" will be the next meet.

You may want to keep that nice find of yours in storage until after the first spring rain. The salts used locally are very caustic.

The fix for your top wind noise may be had by adding washers on the mounting screws for the two latches on top of the windshield to lower them.

Resetting the remote is quite easy. I've done it many times for myself and others. It takes all of 20 seconds.

Good luck with your nice find.

The car looks wonderful, nice find! Since you mention the car is immaculate don't be in a hurry to drive the car if the roads "aren't quite salt free."

I'd also not be in a hurry to lower the car or bugger alter the suspension as a buddy's '02 one inch lowered car grounded everywhere in Cleveland and the Chicagoland roads ain't any better. We retrofitted the OEM springs and the car rides and handles better. We also sourced the larger OEM 17" "AP2V1" wheels which still provide a stock appearance and offer a much wider tire choice.

Me, too. I'm getting ants in my pants about driving it. It's in heated storage over in Geneva, IL. I think that I'm bring it home at the end of February, put it on my low-rise lift, make a couple of changes and get it ready for the first good days in late March.

Thanks for all the advice gents... Yeah.. Looks like she will be in hibernation for a while longer. Although we are supposed to get rain for two days straight tomorrow and Tuesday. If it's dry on Wednesday and the roads are black, I won't have any fears taking her out.

Welcome to the midwest man. I just bought mine from a guy in Chicago land area back in December...I've gotten to drive it a grand total of once as well...on the highway...with very little rear interior. lol Kalamazoo to Detroit. I can't wait to get mine out either, I've just slowly been working on getting a new trunk, wing, new shifter components, aftermarket radio, GEMU, etc etc. You know all the basics. lol

Cheers to being able to finally drive these bastards!
