New Member - Considering S2K purchase. Advise
I'm currently in the market for a Daily Driver sports car. I've been anxious to get back into a car I can occasionally take to the track and do some PDE/HDX events with. I'm considering a S2K and a 06-2010 Cayman S. There are large price differences between the 2 cars but money isn't really an object in the decision. I'd like to know your thoughts on the capabilities of the S2K as a DD and track duty in comparison to a Cayman. Hopefully someone on here has had both or driven both. Are there some relatively simple mods to enhance the S2K's performance on and off the track? I can read the modification threads but I'm sure someone can chime in on the usual essential mods for someone wanting a bit more HP and handling without compromising too much streetability.
Also would really like to know if there is someone that is a known reliable mechanic that knows the S2K well in the Sacramento area. I see there was one but he moved back to the bay area. I usually work on my own cars but I'm getting to that point in my life I don't have any interest in wrenching on my cars but want to find a good mechanic that knows the cars well and will be able to handle maintenance and mod installs for me. Your thoughts are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
AP1 or AP2?
Approx price I should be shooting for on a good used S2K

I don't have any input to offer on an s2k vs. a Cayman.
When it comes to mods, you aren't going to really wring any more power out or these engines (ap1 or ap2) without going forced induction. Bolt-on's aren't going to get you much of anything (I have an intake and exhaust, but purely for sound).
I know you didn't ask for this advice, but have you considered a separate daily driver? An older (ap1) s2k would allow you money left over for a modest daily (compared to the cost of a Cayman or a newer ap2). The reason I mention this is because you don't want to do your own wrenching and the "at the point in my life" comment makes me think you aren't a kid. The s2k (especially if you do some suspension mods) is a rough riding car.
I picked up an inexpensive daily last summer, and wouldn't ever want to go back to using my s2k every day. I appreciate it more now and I love that it gets to stay in the garage during foul weather (and I didn't like driving it to the hood I work in).
