Default New Owner- Excited to join

I'm picking up my S2k this weekend. It's an 01 with 15k on the clock. Driven about 3k a year and garaged winters.

"Assuming" I know nothing about the car's maintenance history, and want to have the car in it's best condition the weekend I pick it up...what is the best I can do for it?

My thoughts:

Oil Change
Tranny fluid change
Rear diff fluid change

Anything else? Much appreciated.

I don't think tranny is necessary since the manual doesn't call for it until a high mileage. Diff may be worth it, but you might as well find out what's been done already and when.

Just do whatever the service manual recommends. It doesn't have ridiculously low mileage, nor does it have ridiculously high mileage either. So perhaps regular stuff will do.

Also, Congrats on your purchase!

Welcome aboard!! Fluid changes never hurt. If you have the time and the money, there is no reason not to change fluids. It will also give you piece of mind. Check your air filter and level of your coolant and brake fluid. Don't forget to check your tire pressures.

Congrats and good luck with your new ride!

definitely go with an oil change, a good 10w30 synth. Also, definitely do a diff fluid change.. mobil 1 75w90 or LE607 (in the marketplace) are good choices. Diff change is good to do around 10k to remove any particles from break in wear. tranny change is up to you. I put in some GM synchromesh friction modified into my 00 S at 10k miles, and the fluid I took out looked completely brand new and definitely didn't need to be swapped.

I would check with the honda dealer to see if the spark plug recall was taken care of. I think they used a new washer and a different torque spec. Any dealer should be able to tell you if it was completed with just the VIN.

change all the fluids. 5 years is a long time for fluids in your car, particularly brake and clutch hydraulic fluids which absorb water over time.

definitely check the plugs.

read the FAQ in this introductions forum and that'll help point to other possible things to do.

best wishes. welcome aboard!

Great advice, thank you.

Any thoughts on what I should use for the fluids?

Dusti, there's an awesome thread called the Oil Journals, which I am about to add to my FAQ thread here in introductions. It's possibly the best set of links on the entire site. Pretty much anything relevant to oil/fluids is discussed within

Go here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=195574

My personal choices:
Mobil 1 engine oil (considering Cosworth for next fill)
LE607 diff
Motul brakes (and I think clutch too, but can't remember )
Honda stock MTF tranny fluid
