Hey guys, I just picked up an 05 s2k about two weeks ago and i am absolutely in love. This is my second car ever and also my first manual car but i do have experience driving manual with my brother’s car. I used to drive a VW Golf and man what a much better driving experience the s2k is. Anyways, here are a few pics of my ride, so glad to have this car. Do you guys have any tips for a newby?
Lots of good info in the library (here) as well as nearly 20 years of maintenance experiences. Complete baseline fluids and lubricants is the typical recommendation. Including coolant and hydraulics unless they were just done. Valve adjustment is critical on the '06 and later cars which tend to have tight clearances and recommended on all years. Honda OEM oil filter in the engine is a clue to good maintenance having been done. Use one when you change the oil. Differential uses hypoid gear oil, NOT Honda differential fluid. It's all in the owner's manual.
Roof straps typically lose elasticity and should be replaced.
These are Hondas with Honda reliability if not abused.
Recommend no Fast and Furious downshifts in the car. Too many guys down downshift from 5th to 4th at high rpms and damage the engine as they put the gearbox in 2d, not 5th, and mechanically over-rev the engine. Messages here almost weekly. Don't force the shift lever, it's spring loaded to the 3d/4th slots.
Roads getting slippery here and rear wheel drive cars drive differently than front wheel drive especially on slippery roads. I hit the throttle on a side street recently and fishtailed the car. Turns out the stretch of street was right at the exit from a car wash and I assume was soap coated.
