Default New Owner in NorCal

Hi guys, my name is Sylvan. I just became a first-time S2000 owner last week! I picked up a 2006 Sebring Silver Metallic with 80,000 miles on the odometer. First impressions: love the car! It's nice to be back in a small car again, and it feels light and tossable. The turn-in is surprisingly quick. The low-end torque is a bit wimpy but it's a real joy in the upper revs. It isn't the most exciting color, but since my last car was black, I'm looking forward to the easier maintenance. Aside from a few minor rock chips and scratches, it's in pretty decent shape. It was a tad rough when I got it, but I spent most of the Memorial Day weekend detailing it. Here, I have some pics to share:

A couple of pics when I first got it:

The wheels were really nasty. I don't know if anyone ever cleaned the inside. (the outside was equally gross!)

The headlights were really oxidized. It took some serious work to clean them up!

Similarly, I polished up the taillights.

It took me about 4 hours to clay bar the crap out of the paint. Check out what I had to deal with. I don't think the car had ever been clayed in the last 7 years!

Yuck!

And finally, after a really long weekend, here is how it looks now:

Curious, what did you do to clear up the headlights so well?

Well, I started with 400 grit wet sanding to get rid of the thick layer of haze & oxidation. Then I worked up to 800, 1000, 2000, 3200 grit papers and finally buffed with Meguiars M105 compound and polished with M205 for the final shine. I'll be honest, it was a lot of work. Took about 2 hours per headlight. But they look almost like new now, so it was time well spent in my opinion.
