Default New S2K owner, happy to be here.

Just bought a 2001 Honda S2K, Silverstone, 114k miles, for $9800. Mint condition.

Everything is stock, I'm picking it up Monday... test drove it for a bit today, I really love the handling.

What should I know about it? I was told by the previous owner the basics, let the temperature reach three lights before driving, premium fuel, etc. I got the impression he really took care of the car, but who knows?

No, I'm not oriental.

Congrats and welcome! It does seem like he took care of it. Also you can drive it before it reaches the 3 bars on the temp guage, you just can't vtec it and go over a certain RPM when the engine is cold. The main thing with our s2000's is to check the oil level, a lot. Especially on ap1's since they tend to burn oil pretty quickly, I would recommend checking it at least every other time you fill up with gas, if not every time you fill up. If you need any help of have questions you are definetly in the right place. Be sure to try and do a little research on here about what you are trying to find before you make a post asking something.

Be safe and have fun!

What's a good oil recommendation, and can you accurately check the oil after driving the car and warming up?

I personally use Castrol GTX with an OEM Honda oil filter. From what I have seen, everyone that has used it on here has been happy, including myself. I wouldnt use Mobile1 since our S likes to burn it up quickly, resulting in you having to add oil more often. I have an 02 ap1 with almost 100k now and I burn around a quart of oil every couple thousand miles which is good for an ap1. So I would recommend Castrol with an OEM filter.

Yes just make sure the engine is warm when you check the oil level, and look at both sides of the dipstick. You will always want to go by the lowest reading on the dipsitck, so if one side of the stick is a notch lower than the other side, go by the lowest one.
