Default Newbie 04 Rio owner!

Hi,

I just bought a Rio Yellow AP2. This thing is a blast to drive! However coming from a WRX, I will definetely need to get used to this car before really pushing it. AWD kind of spoils you. I have a few questions.

The previous owner said no alarm was ever installed, except for the factory keyless entry. However, I noticed a led looking type of thing under my steering column. Do all S2000's come with this unit, or is it some aftermarket thing?

It came with some sort of Blitz exhaust. I'm assuming it's the Blitz Realize since it seems like that is the only exhaust Blitz makes for the S2k? Can anyone confirm from these pics?

This thing is fairly loud so I'm thinking of getting rid of it.

When I'm idling at a stoplight, I hear a metal ticking noise from underneath the car ever 5 seconds or so. It almost sounds like a pebble being dropped on metal. Is this normal?

Where is this "convertible cover" the manual is talking about? It says it's in the trunk but I don't see anything?

Thanks! Looking to be an active member of this community.

Welcome and congrats!

The thing under the steering wheel does not come on every s2k. It does appear to be an alarm...perhaps the alarm was removed.

You'll need to ask the previous owner about the convertable cover. When the car is new, you would have probably found it in the trunk...but I know most don't use it and store it someplace rather than carrying it around in the trunk. It is just a vinyl cover to make the top area look clean with the top down. It's a bit of a PIA to put on and take off every time you are raising or lowering the top.

I don't think very many people actually use it. The previous owner of my car gave it to me. It looked unused and still does...

I don't use my cover at all..., As you say PAI to put on/take off. The LED might be a fake as well or it could be hooked up to the stereo anti theft device. I have some buddies that have done both. Basically to make it so it appears there is an alarm. I sometimes leave my stereo cover open so possible intruders can see the 'blinking light'.

If I were you, spend some time with the exhaust system and research it. It could be providing you some extra punch in the ponies. You can get silencers for them (again do some research).

There is alot of Great information and really helpful people on this board so again spend some time to do some research and ask questions.

Welcome to the Board - MODS - Resistance is futile..., :-)

Welcome aboard, Aspec.

Yes, that LED is non-stock. Another thought about what it might be is some aftermarket airbag kill indicator... It's just a possibility.

Enjoy, and yes... PLEASE!!! ... take it easy until you're really familiar with the car. We've had lots of new owners doing bad things while they get used to the car. Better safe than sorry, in my opinion.
