Default Newbie who just got his first S--'03

[FONT=Arial]I have wanted one of these babies for years, since I first got back to states (from Japan) and saw it was about to be introduced to the US market. After having my CR-V totalled a couple of weeks ago I decided now was the time. Found an '03 with only 22.7 k miles and could not resist.

I use it for my only car and have found that my 20 mile one way commute is no longer a chore, but actually enjoyable. I will keep an eye out for the oil usage and am open for any other pieces of advice etc that any of the veteran S owners might have. I have been reading various topics in the forum and have found a lot of practical advice already.

I wanna go out for a ride!

mdh,

Welcome to s2ki.com and congrats on your purchase.

Beyond the oil, there's very little to worry about in your MY03. Basically, all the AP1 kinks were worked out.

Read through the FAQ threads here and in S2000 Talk, and many of your questoins will hopefully be answered. Best wishes.

Thanks for your reply. Am I to assume that the oil will always be an issue or is it something that is related to how often one uses the VTEC and frequency of redlining?

Also (shoes you how much of a newbie I truly am) is there a place where I can find info that explains terms like "AP1" and "MY" (followed by the year)?

Rather elementry I know. But thanks in advance.

The oil isn't a "problem" so much as simply the way things are. Not all cars burn much off, and at least in my own case I haven't seen that it's particularly related to VTEC. But, yes it's something that always must be watched on the early AP1 engines (MY00 - MY03).

Ah, yes, acronyms... I have a link to definitoins of these in the Introductions FAQ thread (which is at the top of the Introductions forum page). See this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=336712

AP1 and AP2 refer to the two types of engines built for the S2000. AP1 is the original 2.0L engine, which is what we got in the USA from MY00 - MY03. "MY" is model year.

Best wishes!
