Default NickBango Introduction

Hello from Japan! Okinawa to be exact. Decided to join the forum yesterday as i started the purchase of a 99' S2000 here in Okinawa. It's pretty much stock apart from the wheels. Monte Carlo blue paint. Don't have any pictures yet but I will surely post some when i get a chance! Join the forum to gather as much info as i can and hopefully get great advice from experienced owners.

As for myself, I've lived in Okinawa for almost 3 years now. Active duty military (Navy), working as a Master-at-Arms (Military Police). Still have a year left here in great Japan then it is back to NY for some hard earned college for hopefully a bachelors in electrical engineering. After that hopefully I can come back to Japan and live the rest of my life. I speak a good amount of Japanese and learning to read and write. Any questions about Japan or the military feel free to ask. Thanks!

welcome.. Naha's or White Beach's Navy Yard.. I lived in Sukiran.. I miss Okinawa from time to time.. it's where my fondness for the honda S series began.. I was there in the 60's and later in the 70's... kindergarden and highschool... learned to drive on those twisty ocean side roads and with crazy skoshi drivers.. from Hedo Point to Suicide Cliffs... Do they still race at the old Kikitann Air Field... put one or two cars in a few sugarcane fields there.. enjoy your tour.. take up diving if you don't already.. go find the sea caves over around Admirals Island.. hmmmmm, don't get trapped inside there.. hate to think I got ya toasted...

wow... could start a list of questions... lol...

on a semi serious note.. wouldn't mind picking up another shi shi dog for my roof here.. I imagine those cermanic shi shi dogs are still everywhere... now I only have a dog with a closed mouth, I need one with an open mouth..

I live on White beach shipyard. Yeah Okinawa has been fun! Little too hot and humid for my taste at times but some great sites and roads for driving! Winter is great in my opinion here. Stays around 65 degrees with low humidity (at least for Okinawa standards!), and much less rain! Im not sure where Kikitann airfield is sorry, but there are still plenty of Shi Shi dogs everywhere of course. let me know how big of one you need and could ship one for ya!

Awesome! Welcome! If you are planning on modifying your s2000 and bringing it back to the States It'd probably be a good idea to grab some of the more rare/valuable jdm pieces while you're over there and you would save a ton on shipping lol

Yontan Air Field.. west side of the island.. think that's where the okinawain sports car club raced..

Kikitann Field, may not have been an airfield..somehow I keep thinking Baseball.. so never mind that..

was using one of the sat maps and going around the island.. seems they put a freeway between two of my houses.. wonder what that's like...

we drove on the left.. US rules.. until 1972, one day they all changed lane.. that was something..

yea, I keep naha on my weather channel to see... i'm in florida so, it's as close as I get and I like the heat an humid... and I still get a hurricane every now an then.. nothing like Okinawa..

that would be very cool to pick up the second shi shi dog.. I got Max, mine, a closed mouth, back in 1970, he's travelled some.. been broken more then once..

might not be a bad idea to merely pick up a pair.. and retire Max under their roof... he's done me an honorable 40 plus years.. think he's about 15-15 1/2 inches tall.. I would like to know what they go for and see what all that would be to get that.. I know it's not JDM parts.. but hell to me.. it's as priceless..

I was a teen in highschool.. where I first saw and drove the S600's and S800's my friends owned.. I had an MG1100.. So, when I got this S2000, it sort of feels like that one car I didn't get before.... darn thing was already painted in HS team colors.. so I tossed my dragon on it from my lettermen jacket.. might as well have fun.. you know what I mean..

Welcome! I bought mine while I was stationed in Sasebo. I was a Mineman, onboard USS Patriot (MCM 7) until as recently as 2012. Cool to see other navy guys here. How are you planning on bringing the car back?
