Noob From New Mexico - "New '03 S2000"
I've been lurking for a couple of years on the site; sent a couple of offers to members selling but no luck; finally found a sweetheart at a Santa Fe dealer and bought it. Ya, FourPlays would have been nice but my 2003 Silverstone/Black is just fine. And I am as much in love with it as I was my yellow '71 Alfa when I bought it new in SLC years ago. Kinda gives away my age doesn't it.
I've lusted over an S2000 since I saw a yellow one at a dealer in Santa Fe in 2002.
Anyway, 46,347 on it when I bought it from the dealer about a month ago. Have put about 400 miles on it since. We have really nice twisty roads (-: Took my 9 year old daughter for a ride with the top down. She loves it.
My initial impressions:
1. YOU had better drive this car or this car will drive you! Much more so than the '71 Alfa I had.
2. It is SMALL! My 6' 210 frame is a tight fit but feels pretty good (more later).
3. Stock radio SUCKS but then the engine sound makes up for it - UNMOLESTED! COMPLETELY STOCK.
4. It is gorgeous. Mine honestly looks like new (about 4-5 very SMALL dimples on the body and two very small scratches - front damn has seen its share of scrapes on either wheel stops or sidewalks and unfortunately the last two are mine - damn, that thing is low - the interior and top look like new unless it was replaced because the braces don't even have any wear on them from going up and down. The driver's side bolsters don't even have a wrinkle in them - the original owner must have put long trip miles on it or slept in it.
CarFax was completely clean showing the 1st owner also must have loved her because it showed the oil was changed every 3,000 - 3,400 miles. Second owner looked to be ok. Third owner I think must have lost it and I am thinking that is probably where the "other" keys are along with the flippin' radio code as I only got ONE key from the dealer. He/she must have been pissed and kept the keys or tossed them. I got a second one at Wally World and it actually worked. I did some filing on it and it works really good now. I bought two key fobs off the internet and they both work as well. Can't find a place to have the two extra keys cut I bought at the same time as the fobs but at least I do have two keys and two fobs at this point. No radio code though )-: The owners manual had no cover just lose pages but bought a service manual.
I really wanted a Silverstone with black/red but this one is so nice, I've forgotten about the black/red. Dealer had the KBB sticker of $23,000 but met my offer of THOUSANDS less so feel like I could turn around today and probably make $4k - $5k on it (ok, perhaps in the Spring). I have no idea why the dealer came down so much unless it's just we are going into winter and they were having a HUMONGOUS used car sale and I have great credit and no they tried for half hour to sell me every thing in the book but no extra warranties or anything else. I didn't have a compression test done but the engine compartment is clean enough to eat off and the under carriage is super clean too. I'll have a compression check done pretty soon just for my own piece of mind.
The tires are oem spec Bridgestones on the front but Dunlop Direzza DZ101's on the rear. The Bridgestones look like original but can't be 10 years old so must have been changed once and the rears too. Both front and rears have almost full tread left. One wheel has about four inches of curb rash and it isn't bad, all the others are like new.
I feel super lucky to have found this little dream.
Ok, the bad. I live on a dirt road about 800 feet long and don't have a garage so she'll be sleeping under a Car Craft Pro cover which I received last week when not being driven. It sure makes for a lot of car washing tho so I can get the cover on before there is any dust on it.
Question: I've been backing into it and then swinging my legs in but have to do the same to get out. Any secrets on how to get in and out without eventually breaking down the bolsters other than losing weight (-:
Also, is there anyone here from the Santa Fe or Albuquerque area that really knows S2000's that I could talk to and have drive mine and tell me if everything sounds and feels right?
Apologize for all the info but I am a HAPPY S2000 owner so have to brag a little. No more Wishin'S2K 'cuz I got's one.
Oh, ya. It goes like hell as you all know who actually DRIVE theirs. I bought this car to DRIVE (not abuse or track) but definitely to drive! I did read the "noobs" info but anyone who wants to chime in with their 2 cents about feeding her is fine with me.
Thanks for reading.

Thanks Julie U - will do.
Themikewoo, I have already been to your link. Very good info and thanks for your time and effort in posting all that.
I am still trying to figure out what kind of top I have tho, vinyl or fabric. I of course want to protect it. I believe it to be vinyl but somewhere I read (3M site I think) that the way to tell if it is fabric is to drip a small amount of water on it and mush it around. If it soaks in it is fabric. I did do this and it did soak in. Others here have stated that the original top that came with the s2000 was vinyl and I think this must be an original top - sure fits nice and no marks at all on the braces as indicated above.
What to do?
Thanks.

I really wanted an '04 or '06 but just couldn't swing it. An '05 seemed like a waste of money over an '04 - same thing right but you would have to pay for the 1 year newer or at least that was my reasoning. That '06 really looked good but just couldn't do it and then just by an off chance I swung by this big used car sale and low and behold they had this one there. Thanks for the post.
