Noob Question
I just bought a 2001 S2k last week and I've taken it to 2 mechanics to check it out for problems. It has checked out ok, but I was driving the car with one of the mechanics today and I ran it up to about 7500 rpms through first and second gear and he looked at me with a blank stare and asked if I was trying to blow the engine up. I bought the car because I thought it was made to run up to 9k. I have had it since last wednesday and I've probably bounced off the rev limiter half a dozen times (after it was warmed up). If I make sure the car is warmed up first, is it a problem to run the rpms up to 9k while accelerating? And is 2500 - 3000 rpm a good cruising range once your up to speed?

Old school mechanics would question the reliability of the engine at 9k rpms. That is because 9000 rpms is 50% higher than most of the cars they have serviced in the past. Back 10 years ago I didn't want to be the first guy to put 100,000 miles on my S for the same reason but people have put well over 100,000 miles on their S and enjoyed every minute of it.
Tell him to read up on the S and keep enjoying it.

I was trying to get used to the car after first purchasing it and was accelerating pretty hard getting onto freeways and to be honest, any other chance I got to rev the engine. I have sinced chilled out. I wasn't reving to the rev limiter constantly, but it has gotten away from me about a half dozen times and bounced off the limit. I'm not planning on making a habit of it. I've slowed down a bit. Hopefully I haven't done any significant damage.
Any damage?! The car is literally made for it. Buddy of mine bounces his off the top DAILY and it still runs great. Doesnt burn oil. Rev it up and dont listen to the 2 mechanics you brought your car to. Have fun with the car! Just dont miss your shift, ap1 motor has weak retainers.
