Default Old Guy Aboard

I'm probably older than most of you (mid-50s) and am shopping for a summer car again. I change cars too frequently (hence the handle) and my summer cars have consisted of a couple vettes (C3 & C5), Allante, Miata (NA - actually belonged to my late wife), and Del Sol. My requirements are vert, manual tranny, something I haven't owned before, and not German. I looked at the s2k when they first came out, but there was just no way the dealer and I could get my late wife's travel wheelchair in the trunk. (I think that's when I bought the Del Sol with the BIG trunk.) Now that I'm a widower, the s2k is back on the top of my list. I've looked at a completely original, very low-mile 05 that I'll be driving tomorrow evening. If there are no surprises, I'll probably pull the trigger. (Out of consideration to my brother-in-law, a Ford retiree, and my grandkids who like to go for rides, I'm also going to test drive a new Mustang GT vert. But, I don't really think I want anything that large.)

My other current cars are an '11 Prius and '12 Ridgeline. I drive over 30K miles per year and try to spread the miles around among my vehicles. My fiancee just rolls her eyes at my car habit.

A 5.0 vert mustang must be a blast to drive with the top down and all that torque. But like you said, it's far from a small nimble car.
The s2000 is a great guy for its price. Especially if you can get a low mileage one like you've found. You will really enjoy this car.
Check this thread out so you know what to look for tomorrow when you drive the 05

Thanks, I saw that thread and noted a number of items which I checked in a test drive of another car.

The Mustang is OFF the list. The dealer only had a V6 with the manual tranny and it had notchy shifting and a grabbing clutch. The car felt big and boaty. For grins, I drove a new Miata and found it to be similar to what I remember from the NA we owned. I noticed that the dead pedal in the NC is very narrow and it was hard to plant my foot there without hitting the clutch. It generally didn't fit my height as well as the S2000. The only advantage of a new NC is that my BIL's Ford Z plan gets me a nice discount.

Looking forward to driving the AP2 tomorrow evening. I understand how things work on these forums. Here's the teaser...

If you research the s2k enough and obviously apple to oranges, but if it happens to meet your needs, it'll surpass your wants even more.

As far as posting pictures, try using tinypic.com or photobucket.com and copy and past the image link [i m g ] Picture link here [ / i m g ]

See you around.

PS: You aren't old, not by a long shot, my friend. Congrats on the engagement too, I just recently got engaged as well.

OK, we inked a sales agreement this evening with a deposit and the final transfer will be in about 2 weeks when he returns from a trip. The car was exactly as I expected & perfect for me.

S2k home and tucked into the garage so I can get the tractor out. There was a multi-hour wait at the SOS office to apply for a title & plates, so I'll go tomorrow. Drat, more waiting.
