Default Parts haggling

Hi all,

As i said in another thread, i will possibly be getting an s2k at the end of the week. I definitely want to get the front lip...but i was wondering, is it possible to haggle about the price for parts? the dealer wants ~$550 for lip + labor.

any help would be appreciated =)

you can buy it from here( http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000-03.html ) for much less, installation can't be hard so long as you have atleast a little bit of mechanical know how

Thanks for the info...however that site only sells the front lip for '00-'03. i'll be purchasing a new '07.

i really would like to know about haggling per se...i know it's easy to look around online and look...but i would like to know the feasability of haggling to minimize the hassle involved with buying from another company and installing it myself.

I think some haggling can be done. I am not sure if anyone has done this before, but when I was looking at a 350Z I told them I wanted the 18" wheels not the 17" wheels. They said they could offer me the dealer cost on them.

The honda dealers that ihave been to have treated the parts department as a separate entity. They will not "throw in" parts or make any deals on them. You have to go to the parts dept. separately. i'm not looking to ask the dealer to throw in anything with my purchase. i'm asking if anyone know if price haggling on individual parts is possible.

e.g. Honda retail value for front lip is $449. However, is there a way to get them closer to the invoice price (whatever it is) for that part?

In your case I would say you are SOL. You have no leverage and frankly if you have to ask the question, you aren't a skilled enough negotiator to do it.

uh thanks but that doesn't help. I'm just asking the simple question - is it possible to haggle on parts prices. I've never tried before, and that's why i'm asking

yes it is. i haggled down the price of my hardtop. the dealership buys in the part for $X and sells it for whatever margin they feel comfortable with. the sales guy just needs to get it approved from his manager. just be nice to the sales consultant and say that you'll come back to him for future parts purchases and will refer people to him. the sales guys have a quota to meet as well.

as far as the lip, it's a DO IT YOURSELF job as long as you can read English. i bought mine from www.handaacessories.com and installed it with my dad. it's just some screws and adhesive tape. there is absolutely no point paying honda to do it for you.

handaaccessories comes out to be about $415 (includes tax and shipping to san diego).

it's good to know the final price for handa before you walk into the dealership.
