Picking up my White AP1 Tomorrow, hello peeps
Mike here from Chicago.
Always wanted an s2K as a toy and my dream is materializing tomorrow. As I was searching America for a clean AP1 with low miles in White only, a friend was in town from Hawaii and we were discussing how I had found one in Colorado I wanted to go pick up. She knows nothing about cars and I had to explain what an s2000 was to her. Once I described it she remembered a friend from Hawaii who had just moved back home to Michigan....who happened to have a "little white Honda convertible" he wanted to sell.
It was the most strange coincidence ever...
Got a hold of the guy and he explained he was having another baby, and the wifey was making him get rid of the toy.
Issues:
He had the common trunk leaks and never repaired them so the trunk is rusted through. Good news? I manage a car dealership and have a hook up at honda. Gonna get the "Luggage pan" for 112 bucks and have a friend with great welding skills!!! It appears to be the rear bumper vent leak based on the pictures of the rust.
Red/Black interior is not my first choice, but better than the all red, the blue, and the tan. The drivers seat has a seam tear.
The good:
Only 72K original miles with a clean history and only bumpers ever having been repainted. Bumpers are going bye bye anyhow.
He had the top replaced 2 years ago with the glass version!
He had the coils all replaced at 65K...which seems to be a common failure on these cars. Glad that is done already.
Cheap price! (around 8K)
So, I am happy to see a forum where people are sharing quality info and discussing this awesome car. I have driven quite a few as the Manager of a dealership over the years. Stoked to have the 9K motor.
My goal with the car is to get the AP2 front and rear bumpers, some decent suspension improvements, and eventually 300 rwhp.
Can the experienced modifiers of these cars help me choose a path?
If my goal is 300 rwhp and that is all I will ever want, should I go the forced induction route, or the N.A. route????? What are the pro/cons of either path? My few Honda friends have said the s2k motor is not a big fan of forced induction, but I come from Subaru world and do enjoy me some boost...Thoughts?
Cheers,
MikeO
Thanks! I will post pics tomorrow...sadly working today and cannot access "personal network and storage" sites at work.
I knew it would be easier to go the boosted route, but I heard that the motor doesn't like boost in stock form. Tough call to build the heads and do as much NA as I can, or just slap a SC on and hope the motor holds...lol.
