Default Practically new 2000 model year...

I'm in the market for an S2K and found a 2000 model year with only 8700 miles (crazy, I know). I want an AP1 before I get an AP2. This one is a bit more than the KBB value ($12,700 asking, $10950 KBB for an excellent one) but everything is negotiable. My question is, with all the used S2000's in the market, is a 2000 model year worth it?

I already know about the glass rear window, which is really important to me, but what are some other things that would need to be upgraded?

Thanks for any info!

If this is in the wrong forum please move it.

That's a subjective question -- like any other question of worth. If you're certain you want an AP1 then it seems like it should be. If you're not certain then keep test driving.

is everything still original????? you might need to buy new tires, replace all the belts and fluids and that can add up.

Amazingly low miles.

Some MY00 had issues with synchros. Unless the clutch was changed under the TSB, you may experience the annoying clutch buzz. You will want to make sure the spark plugs were replaced under a recall...MY00-01 plugs would not stay seated in the head and would tend to damage the head as they worked loose.

MY00 had no clock at all...not even on the radio if that bothers you. Also, the wind deflector between the seats was an option on the MY00.

hmmm...I am a staunch supporter of the earlier model year s2000s, but if I were in your position, I'd look for a 02-03, unless the 2000 is in far superior condition, and it is the color and everything that you are looking for

I would love it if it was well maintained.
The 2000 year is the most raw S - the plastic window is fine if you take care of it. The missing clock? Don't be silly, you have a cell phone. The suspension is really firm and the steering is really quick.
One problem with getting a low mileage car is that the problems that generation car gets will come up when the car is no longer under warranty. You can, however, find out what to look for. Search the forums here and you will see what normally goes bad on these cars.
Best of luck -
Will

Went and looked at it today. One owner, everything is original and it drove smoothly. Purchased for $12,700 (with 8700 miles!) and I'm picking it up tomorrow. The carfax report showed recommended service history. The only options it has are the truck lid spoiler and the aluminum or titanium shift knob. I'll post a proper intro thread later.

About the spark plus, how would I know if they are loose? Should I replace them regardless? If I took it to a dealer, any idea how much it would run?

Thanks for the info. I'm so stoked!
