Pushing beyond 5500 RPMs prior to 600 miles...
Having not read my owners manual (stupid I know) or being informed at the dealership, I was shocked to read both on the forums and later in the owners manual about the "breaking in period" and keeping the car below 5500 RPMs during the first 600 miles. Although I did not push the car excessively during this point, I certainly did not follow that recommended tip - am I the only one who was ignorant of this and can this actually damage the car in any way??? Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thanks!

You bought a $30K piece of equipment and didn't read the manual?
Yes, I realize that was very stupid and I spent the better part of the evening last night going over the manual as I should have done on day one - still curious if any damage could actually have been incurred.
Don't worry about it, you car is probably just fine.
Some people say the S2000 does not need a break-in period, some do.
You mentioned you did not push the car excessively, so...
Relax and enjoy it, the future looks bright!
You can do alot worse to your car than that

Sorry. Couldn't help myself.
What's done is done. Different people will give you different answers. Did you scrub 5% of the 200K mile life of the engine away? Maybe, maybe not. Did you add a little wear to the cylinder walls or make your rings seat funny? Maybe, maybe not. Did you shorten the life of the tranny or differential? Maybe, maybe not.
I would venture a guess to say that any undue wear you induced will be minimal or negligable. Chalk it up to experience and move on. There is nothing you can really do about it now short of change fluids, but Honda recommends against changing oil early.
You feel guilty. You'll get over it as will the car. Enjoy it.

Don't worry too much. Honestly, I sometimes wonder if car manufacturers actually run the car up to redline just to see if the car runs properly as part of the QC process ...

Thanks very much to all those that participated in this thread! One very nice aspect of owning this car is being able to interact with fellow drivers/owners and invariably build upon my own knowledge of the S2K through the views and opinions of you guys.
Thanks!

In fact, simplex, there is a small school of thought somewhere that believes that following the break in recommendations from the manu. actually takes away from the performance of the car. Some of the WRX guys really believe that. I don't, I followed mine pretty stringently. Now I have 1700 miles, so Vtec is fine.
