Default Questions About S2000?

Hello everyone of s2ki,

I currently own a 05 GTI 1.8T, slightly modded. I am not thinking, but i AM going to purchase a s2000 and i had a few questions. Sorry for any ignorant questions, i'm just the type of person that really needs to be sure of something before i do it.

So my questions are...

-What are the differences in years?
-Hows the reliability?
-What are some things i need to look for when purchasing a used s2k?
-Hows the maintenace on the s2k?

Now for questions regarding modding the s2k. Don't get me wrong, i personally feel that the s2k has enough to offer already in terms of performance. But who doesn't mind having some extra power...so on with the questions.

-How much would i be looking to fork out for some good auto-x/DD susp. setups?
-How much would supercharging the s2k cost?
-Would i need to purchase anything else for the s2k in order to properly/safely run the SC?
-What kind of drivetrain upgrades should i look into?

All in all, roughly how much would i expect to spend to make the SC s2k ready to run...safely

Thanks in advance s2ki.

Please look at the 'Introduction' forum most of the info you want is there, and please read all the FAQ's about 6 years worth of accumulated S2K knowledge there.
Cheers, Mike

Typical ....he's new, why not help him out...

First off welcome to S2ki. Ill provide some of my input

-What are the differences in years?
00 - introductory model year (a few TSB's need to be applied)
01 - same as 00 but adds rear wind deflector between the seats (includes 00 TSBs)
02 - same as 01, adds rear glass window, leather center console cover, slight suspension/dampening tweaks, updated clutch springs, more powerful stereo, door tweeters.
03 - same as 02, interior (full color dashboard) and exterior color differences
04 - Major model change, 2.2L engine, updated interior and exterior (bumpers, lights), retuned suspension (softer rear), 17inch wheels
05 - Same as 04?
06 - Minor model change, adds Stability program, traction control, drive-by-wire, updated wheels...small updates to interior

-Hows the reliability?
Super reliable as any other Honda

-What are some things i need to look for when purchasing a used s2k?
Obviously check if its been salvaged or in an accident. Check all the Vin labels
are in place, get a compression test etc...

-Hows the maintenace on the s2k?
Maintenance costs are not any more then any other Honda. Maintenance is cheap considering the car that it is.

-How much would i be looking to fork out for some good auto-x/DD susp. setups?
Tires would be all you need..the car is great out of the box

-How much would supercharging the s2k cost?
Check prices for a comptech ot vortech charger

-What kind of drivetrain upgrades should i look into?
If you get a 00 or 01 make sure you upgrade the clutch for the buzz problem (weak clutch springs)...many people like swaping out the rear end gear for autoX or tracking

Thats all i can remember for now
I had a 01 GTi VR6...loved the car, hated the problems.
My Sister has a GTi 20th anniversary and its been trouble free...awesome car btw

I may have forgotten some stuff, im sure others will chime in

Great post Tugz.

Don't be afraid to ask questions, there are some very helpful people posting here....others will just refer you to the search function instead of posting something helpful. Ignore those posts. Sometimes the search function will not get you what you need as quickly as you may need it.

Congrats!!, Sounds like a pretty decent deal!
The "Tehcnical" Sub forum under the "Under The Hood" forum has a great FAQ section with tons of free mods and DIY's

Hello, there. Another fellow vortexer.
I also love the s2000. Looking forward to purchase one myself.
Congrats on your new purchase, and enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the board! Try look at the sticky threads first. Those are generally a good start to learn about the car -- saves you time from running searches.

Anyway, welcome and good luck with the car!
