Hello all, I recently joined this site after deciding on buying an AP1 S2k with my wife. The S I bought is a 2000 AP1 with 188k miles on it that I got for around $9500. Probably not the best deal ever, or at all, not really sure. Personally didn't do much research into what to look for when buying an S, only decided that I wanted one(As did my wife) and got one. We love the car though, it's beautiful and drives great. It has been lowered on BC coilovers and the stock wheels+steering wheel have been replaced that's about it. No major issues with the car(so far) The CEL is on so I've got to get that checked out. I'm not too worried though. While I probably could have found a better deal on a different S, I'm happy with the choice my wife and I made to go with this one. I'm just glad the guy I almost bought a miata from flaked on me so I could have this opportunity.
Our other car is a Mercedes CLK 430 which we love to death(muh v8 baby) but I'm quickly falling for the S. It's just such an attractive car. I've told my wife we're going to get another S2K I like it so much.
(I don't know why the original image is so huge sorry)

Not the best deal but hey if its a clean car and you like it then that's all that matters. I would check around for basic maintenance ideas in the forums and have it checked out especially if you don't know the history. Miles don't hurt these cars, poor maintenance does so just make sure you spend the extra money up front to prevent a future problem.

Being an AP1, you need to check to see if the valve retainers have been upgraded to the AP2 version (search around on here if your unsure of what I'm talking about).

On the deal side...a lot of folks feel they overpaid for their S2K. I know I did initially, but that feeling goes away quickly after you spend some seat time in the car. Enjoy the ride and don't beat yourself up over what you paid for it.
