Default Replacement Head unit, new stereo, and a big hello!

First, hello to everyone! New to this Forum.
I have a 2006 S2K.
I would like to replace the head unit, and appropriate speakers in the Doors and the head rests. Can anyone recommend a replacement stereo that will fit behind the little door, and utilize the controls on the left side of Dash? And what brand speakers others have had good results with?
Best to everyone out there!
I am located in Ventura County Ca

Welcome! There's a wealth of information waiting for you in the Electronics section. I run a Kenwood KDC-X996 head unit, Modifry wired DCI with speed controlled volume, Infinity Kappa Perfects 6.1 component speakers, a 10" Alpine Type-R subwoofer in a Zenclosure custom sub box, and an Alpine PDX-F4 amplifier and have been happy with this setup, but there are plenty of other options out there.

Thanks, I will have a look.
I was hoping for a general solution and that Kenwood head unit has been discontinued. I want to be able to use the Left hand controls, and utilize my iPhone with a great sounding head unit....
And specifically are there speakers that fit in existing speaker locations that are superior in quality? Where is your sub woofer?
again ill have a look.....thank you.

Hi Motom,

If you are looking for a simple headunit and speaker swap, I would recommend the following:
  • Recommended Headunit: Kenwood KDC-X998
  • Wiring Harness: Modifry DCI + Modifry Wiring Harness for Kenwood
  • Speakers: Polk Audio DB6501
Add subwoofer and amplifiers as desired...

It couldn't get any simpler than this...

Here are instructions with photos for the headunit swap, as well as the speaker installation...

There are lots of 6.5" speakers that are superior in quality compared to OEM. As mentioned in the aforementioned link, many require the shallow OEM speaker basket to be cut in order for the speaker to fit. My current sub is in the trunk well, where the tire tools go.
