Is the S2000 really THAT hard to drive?

Wow what a great tread. Very informative. I just picked up my s not even 2 weeks ago and it's a hard car to get used to especially if it's your first manual and rwd. But as i drive it more and more definitely taking the turns slowly and precautiously i'll be alright. Am i ready for the track? Most definitely not it does take time to master this car. By the time the spring starts popin out 80 degree weather and i have the top down most of the time. I should have the car and all it's crazy tricks down pat.

I expect it will take me years before I come close to mastering the S. Number one reason I bought it was the fact that it was, and is, a better car than I am driver. Such humility should keep me alive and the car in one piece.

My biggest misunderstanding about this car is not actually about the car but about the summer tires on it. The only time I almost lost it was last December when I was pulling out of a gas station when it was about 20 degrees outside. I totally fishtailed and was lucky that I was able to recover and that there was no one else around.

There IS a reason they call them "summer tires" it turns out Next winter I am either going to mothball my car for the season and drive a beater or get some winter tires. I thought winter tires just meant they were to be driven in snow, but I guess temperature also plays a role

^ I really try to warn people about that.

YES, if you're driving where the weather drops below 40F, PLEASE get winter tires!!!!!! Summer tires, particularly the stock Bridgestones, turn into bricks in the cold.

the all season tires that are stock should be fine in the rain and winter.

Don't buy one for yourself until you at least know what kind of tires they come with. Lots of people get hurt that way.

The S2000 comes from the factory fitted with SUMMER TIRES. They deliver horrible traction when cold. Also horrible in the wet long before the wear bars are exposed on the inside of the tires (and you have to almost get under the car to judge the wear accurately).

Thank you, red. That is correct, and roadster_s2k needs to pay better attention.

Folks, I know winter is getting nearer to "done" here in the north east, but it's far from over. I've been around this forum long enough to see too many folks crash their cars due to lack of respect for the weather and their tires' poor cold-weather traction. Don't let that be you, m'k?.
