Is the s2000 really THAT reliable?
Alright well I am selling my car and looking to get into something else, I have been in alot of Honda showrooms and usually it is the s2000 that sits there, and to me there is something about getting in it and sitting that is a bliss in itself, maybe I am going overboard but this car just seems so great in every way, between it's sleek look, the nice feel, go kart handling, hids and Honda reliability. However I am concerned because I hear the car has problems with transmissions, and I see alot of them with blown motors or replaced motors and it makes me question weather this car is really that reliable especially considering it has to be driven hard to really get what your supposed to get out of it. But to be honest there is no other convertible out there that fits the mold I am looking for like this one, you have Camaros and Mustangs but they handle like crap and are Ford and Chevy, I would love a Corvette convertible but I can't afford it, the Z roadster is too tacky looking and big for me and too expensive, a Miata is too homo like, and I don't know. I would be buying a 2000-01 with 30-60000+ miles and need advice on if I can drive this car like its meant to be driven and not have to worry about things braking. I indeed want to have a car that I can enjoy without giving me problems. Thanks

The S2Ks engine is extremely reliable! Money Magazine - Most Relaible Sports Cars
I reluctantly admit that I'm a BMW fanatic (2 Z3s, a 330 ZHP and an old 525), and a lover of the old ///M Roadster; I really appreciate the HP and looks of the ///M Roadster (the new one is OK, but not great looking and a little too pricey IMO).
When looking to replace my 120K mile Z3 - I looked at the Boxster S and Nissan's 350Z, and eventually decided on the S2K. Since getting the S2K I've had a chance to drive the 350Z convertible and new Boxster again, and am more convinced than ever the S2K was the right choice.
When I'm carving up mountain roads in the S2000 I feel like a surgeon, and the S2K is my scalpel.
I'll add my $0.02...
If I read your user name correctly I'm assuming your selling your Neon SRT-4. Now you've posted about the reliability of the S2000 and I have to tell you both of my mates back in Canada that bought SRT-4's have had serious engine issues (1 blown and still fighting with Dodge on Warranty issues) - BOTH STOCK.
My mate Warren who owns a 2000 year AP1 S2000 with lots of go-fast goodies hasn't had one single issue with his motor nor the reliability of the car. My 07 silverstone still runs the original 2.0L motor (middle east spec) and I'd be very surprised if anything happens and we run in +40C temperatures for 2-3 months.
These cars are still sold here (Middle East) with no apparent issues and full warranty. However, the SRT-4 (not sold here), Mitsubishi EVO, and Subaru Impreza STI are sold but with NO Warranty. Makes you wonder about reliability in hot temps yet the S2000 is still offered and sold with warranty.
Get an S2000 because its what it is - killer and very reliable.
