Default s2000 vs..

Hey guys ,

I am new to the forum here and I was just wondering if the S2000 is worth buying/trading for. I have been reading some threads about reliability and the s2000 seems to score pretty high, I mean it IS a Honda after all... Im in the market of an S2000 preferably around $10k give or take a few thousand. Currently I own a 2004 Acura TL that has ~105k and got an offer on craigslist from a guy who owns a S2000 with ~130k. I researched the value differences on KBB.com on both of our cars and mine is worth almost $4,000 more than his car, plus I have over $2000 worth of mods. I was wondering if it is really worth the trade because the TL is a bit too classy for me. I dont need the space and I always liked how the S looked, sporty and compact yet sleek. I am most concerned about the power.. I mean both cars are pretty quick. The TL has a bit more power but the S's weight makes up for it. I have a friend with an AP1 S with a cai and 3" exhaust and it was pretty fast, but i had him beat both times. The second time actually was closer, i was probably only half a car ahead of him. I also had a cai and 2.5" exhaust but mines an auto.. So yea I was wondering what would make the S fast w/o boosting it and is it really worth me trading my TL for an S. Thanks for reading and i apologize for the long essay.

Hey Richard,

The S2000 and TL are two very different cars and right now judging by your post It just seem like you're looking for a fast car to race with...S2000s engines are nearly maxed out from factory and to make it "fast" with out boosting would cost you a lot of money...I mean buy the car for the right reasons not just for "fast". I came from a 500whp Evo 9 because I love the way the S2000 handles and how it looks. Also the reliability. It Is worth trading in for? I don't know that's entirely up to you. I would do it, but the S2000 Is not extremely fast. It's a great car all round.

^ Thanks for the quick reply... and wow 500whp evo is a monster dude.. what was the 1/4 like high 10's low 11? Well anyway.. Yea i really love how the S2Ks look and I havnt test driven one yet so I dont really know how it handles.. Any other great qualities about the S2K? I mean I heard they chew up tires like there is no tomorrow, but I would really like to know more about the S2K from the owners because I really want one.

Ive been in the import scene for quite some time, and the S2000 is the only car that will turn the most heads for under $20k, I kid you not. I sometimes get tired of saying "thankyou" to all the compliments I get from strangers...

No problem, I never tracked my Evo 9 so I wouldn't know the quarter mile on it. The S2000 handles great better than the Evo I would say but then again it's two different class of cars. I also do own a S2000 by the way. As for great qualities i wouldn't know where to begin. There's so many from looks, performance, handling, reliability, potential with the right modification. Every car has it's pros and cons depending how you look at things. If you really want one I'd say go for it and I'm sure you won't regret your decision.

You can only go so fast on the street without getting in trouble and endangering yourself. Watch out for Craig's List also, there are tons of scams on that site.

Thanks guys, my mind is set on the S2K, most likely an AP1 because its cheaper. Ill post up some pics when I do get it! Looking forward to being a part of this community. Take care.

your friend really needs to learn how to drive if he's getting beat by an auto TL

I forgot to mention he did have his top down and he had one passenger. He might have beaten me if his top was up and if there was no passenger. The TL's have a grip of torque. But yea.. good race nonetheless.

Pretty much the same answer as ever: only you can answer if it's worth it to you by test driving the S. Worth is always subjective no matter what the topic.

The often overlooked track time.
