S2000 Vs. Miata
I own both a miata and s2k and for sure I can tell you all that the S2K is much more superior in just about everything. The only thing that I dont like about it is that i HAVE to use premium gas.. and you know what .. so does every other real sports car. I own a 94 miata as well.. I use it mostly to go to work and such.. still a fun car to drive but nowhere near the experience I get with the S. Its faster.. looks much better.. built by HONDA (reliable)... and while its true that parts are more expensive.. thats the price to pay for have an all-round awsome sports car.. dont know what else to say guys.. I love them both .. but the S is much better..
hey guys.. i am getting some flack about the same issue on Miata.net..
could use some help here.

I think "better" is an inherently loaded term, guys. A well-driven Miata will spank many S2000s on a tight autocross. Better could mean whether it's easy or not to find aftermarket parts and mod...
I mean, really, those of us who love the S2000 think it's "better," but you have to qualify that with specifics.

I just look at it like this.. The food chain goes Miata<S2k<BoxsterS, or etc. I think the Miata is a great car, and loads of potential, and support. But the fact remains the S out brakes, out accelerates, arguably looks better, and shines in just about every category you put it in against the Miata. Just like the new Boxster S is a faster car than the S2k, I am of course talking stock to stock. Anytime you mod anything, thats totally irrelevent because as you can see by the video in the gallery, there is a VW bus that passes a 911 GT3, but there isn't a forum of VW Bus owners talking trash about a GT3.
I actually can answer this question as I have owned both and AutoX both. I had a 01 Miata last year and it was a great car. One of the best cars I have ever driven hard be it on the track or on the back roads. But I was always left wanting more speed out of it. I thought and almost went the FI route and got to thinking about it and between the cost and potential problems of FI, I decided selling it and buying a S2K was the better path for many reasons and #1 being resale. Whatever you dump into a Miata to make it an equal or faster car than a S2K, you will never get back when your ready to sell.
While the Miata may be an easier car to drive fast at first, the S is just simply the better choice once you figure out their quirks. Lik emost mentioned above, it's a Honda, etc. I don't think you can really go wrong with either but the Miata will leave you wanting more in the long run and the S provides that and more.

I've owned a BRP supercharged 2003 Miata LS 6-speed and currently a 2006 S2000. They are both great cars and very enjoyable to drive.
I choose the Mazda in 2003 over the S2000 because of its smaller size and lighter weight (the decision had nothing to do with price). The supercharger was ordered before I purchased the car, it definitely needs it. With the intercooled BRP supercharger installed the car performed great both on and off the track. I prefered the power delivery of the FI'd Miata over the S2000 and never once thought I made the wrong decision with the Mazda. The Miata is the only car I have missed after it was sold.
A few months ago, I was in the market for another lightweight, rear-wheel-drive roadster. I thought about purchasing a used Miata and supercharging it like my old one, but did not want to go through the hassle of trying to find the perfect car. The BMW Z4's look like hell and I did not want the expensive long term cost of the Boxter, so I purchased the S2000. I really enjoy the S and its growing on me day by day. I have had the car on the track twice (with only 2,200 on the odo) and the car truly feels at home on the race track (despite its performance, the Miata did not). I will supercharge the S2000 when a "roots" style blower becomes available. The S really does not need the charger, but I want more power in the low-end rpm range.
Both are great cars, you really have to choose which car fits your needs best.

The S2000 is a great car, no doubt about it. I've owned both. I put right at 100,000 miles on my Miata and I beat the hell out of it on the street and on the track. It was the most reliable car I've ever owned by far. It was totaled when I was rear ended by a Camry going 55 to 65 mph while I was sitting in 3 to 5mph traffic. I walked away. The S2000 was a better overall sportscar but it certainly wasn't always more fun to drive. For most people I think a Miata would be a much better first sportscar than the S2000. Coming from a powerful rear drive car like you are you should be fine in the S2K as long as you remember it can still bite you if you don't stay ahead of it.

I am going to be controversial here and suggest neither for you. You just came from a domestic muscle car and wanted something. If I were in your shoes, I would take a look at the Solstice GXP or Sky Redline. Both of them will satisfy your horsepower urges while fitting the requirement of a 2-seater vert.

I won't comment on the mazda board.... but it makes me laugh. They REALLY believe that the Miata is better.
