Default S2000 w/ 5K miles - Fair price?

I'm going to be looking at a 2004 silverstone w/ red & black interior, completely stock, perfect condition, never driven in rain, and only 5K miles on the odometer. The seller is asking $26.5K for the car, but I think that is too high, even considering the low miles.

If I decide I'm interested, what is a fair price to offer for a car like this? It could look & drive like brand new, but it's already 1 1/2 years old (bought in the late summer of 04 by the current & original owner). I don't want to insult the current owner with a lowball offer, but I also don't want to overpay for the car (even though it's the best color combo - in my opinion)

Thanks in advance for your help!

That price is for NJ. State-to-state may differ, but it wouldn't be $2k different.

*If the link doesn't work, KBB lists it as $24,850 @excellent.

I picked up an '01 (in Spring of '04) with 7k miles, also never driven in rain, in really pristine condition, for $23.5k. The asking price was $24.5k.

Figure out the maximum amount you're prepared to spend, offer a little less, and be prepared to meet in the middle. If the seller is not flexible, walk away. I think the price is a tad high, but it is April, which is a good month for selling convertibles, so who knows?

Do you have your heart set on it? I would rather pay the few extra grand and get a new one if you can afford it

Well, said.

i once met a seller who was a total ****.

I drove two freakin hours to met her and she wouldn't bring down the price even for 100 dollar.

I told her good luck and i drove off.

She felt like she's giving the car away to me for free or something.

Offer $25K and see if he/she takes it. That sounds like a fair price to me for both the seller and the buyer.

I bought my 04 last month for $25,500, with 1900 miles on it. Around here, most people with 04s are asking in the $25K-$27K range, usually with around 10K miles or so. I'd offer the seller $25K even.

I bought a used 04 last year for less. I think 24K is more in the ball park. I bought mine in the Winter, so demand for a convertible was probably less.

In my mind, $25k to $25.5k would be a good deal for both buyer and seller.
