S2K shopping advice needed
Hi all,
Complete newbie here.
I decided I wanted something sportier than my 2008 Civic SI. So, I've been looking at the S2K. While most people seem thrilled with the S2K, I'm a little nervous about purchasing one after reading all the threads about the tears in the soft top due to the top's poor design.
So, my question for those of you that own an S2K and know about this problem, would you let this issue dissuade you from purchasing an S2K if you had to do over again?
Is the problem with the top widespread or am I just hearing from a small minority of owners that have this issue?
Thank you for your help.
Rick

i would buy the s2k again in a hearbeat, and im not saying this b/c of biased opinion... the car is just that good...
i honestly believe the soft top fiasco is a widespread problem...
it's at a TSB stage right now... i believe it's only at this stage b/c not enough people are calling honda...
people don't want to be on the phone, simple laziness, or don't realize the problem just yet...

Other than the top tearing issue (which is widespread), the car is absolutely perfect. I would either get a hardtop, or plan on replacing the soft-top at some point in time. If it is under warranty Honda will more than likely cover it, after the warranty expires its a less likely. I too figured it was a small minority of people complaining online and the people without problems weren't posting as they had no complaints. Well, within 10,000 miles my 2007 had the same tear developing on the passenger side as I had seen in several photos. Even still the car is so much fun that I wouldn't let that scare you off. Check for abrasions before you buy (especially if the car is out of warranty), and try to take some preventative measures (wrap something around the joint that causes tear, etc).
EDIT: I felt I should add this. I have owned and driven all types of sports cars in my life (Toyota Supra, BMW M3, Porsche 930, 911, Cayman S, Acura NSX, Subaru WRX Sti, etc). Out of all these cars honestly the S2000 and the Cayman S are the most fun (IMO). The s2000 is an "angry street legal go cart" which really connects the driver with the road, has the best gearbox/shifter out of any car, and just loves to be taken into turns at any speed (faster the better).
