S2K test drive questions.
I've been looking for an S2K for a couple months now. Done tons of research here so, I think I know a bit about them. Took a test drive today and ended up with some questions.
2001 S2K 53K miles on it. He's asking $18,500 US for it.
1) The clutch didn't engage till the very last inch of the pedal (let it all the way up before it engaged). I found it pretty annoying. Is this normal?
2) The suspension which was stock, seemed pretty under-damped. Is this typical of an S2K? I might be spoiled because I have Koni Yellows on my current vehicle.
3) Engine was making what might have been valve noise. How often do you adjust the valves on the S2K?
I have a feeling the car's been driven hard. Non-stock Air intake and non-stock exhaust which I'm not much for. I know it's had some body work but, it's not clear how extensive. He says it was keyed but, I noticed some divits in the body work that I associate with bondo.
Price seems a touch high for a vehicle in this condition.
Thoughts? I'm mainly interested in the clutch question.

The clutch is a wear item.
Not cheap to replace.
Hard driving = more wear.
How about the service history?
If you feel the price is to high, and you have doubts about how the car was handled, walk away.
Good luck on your search.

Appreciate the comments but, that it's a wear item's beside the point. Where does a stock non-worn clutch engage on a 2001 S2k? My Integra R motor/tranny, the clutch engages about 1/2 up the pedal travel.
Imho, at 53K miles, it would only be worn if it was driven wrong.
I guess I could just go drive a couple more.

1) Yes...mine engages pretty high compared to my old M3. I don't even notice it. Every car is different...just something to get used to.
2) You probably are spoiled by the Koni shocks. And by 53k miles the oem shocks are getting a little long in the tooth and tired especially if the car was driven spiritedly.
3) Manual says 100k miles. Many find adjustment every 30k-50k miles is more appropriate and can improve performance. A reputable import tuner shop that does Hondas can adjust them for under $125...and if you have some skill they are not too hard to do yourself.
Valve train on the car is fairly noisy though...however if it sounds like a can of BBs rolling around it may be the timing chain tensoner...which is very easy to replace (some can do it in 15min).
4) It is a 9k rpm redline SPORTScar...I hope it was driven hard or someone bought the wrong car.
And if you were worried about the NA car being driven hard...don't even bother with the SC car! LOL...just giving you a hard time...good luck with your search.

About half way or just under that. (its hard to pin point)
Mine does. MY00, clutch is 13000 km old, orginal pressure plate.
