Default Searching for the perfect s2k

Hello everyone,
Long time lurker first time poster, I'm from Knoxville, TN.
I have been looking for an s2000 for a while now and when I find the right one it will be my 5th Honda I have found a 2003 GPW with 35,000 miles and it seems to be in pretty good shape except for one thing. The rear bumper has cutouts with a black metal mesh insert. I haven't run the carfax yet, I just wanted to get a few opinions first.
I'm currently waiting on a response to see what cash offer he will take.
Thanks everyone.
Edit: he just replied with 14500

Alot of people do similar mods like this, some people say just for looks, but apparently its supposed to help create less drag at higher speeds. Id run the carfax and check the rear for possible repainted areas.

That pic looks like its been modded slightly, so the rear bumper could just be a simple mod, and I wouldnt worry about it. My car has a new front bumper, but its never been in a wreck before.

Price wise, I think it could go lower, I got my 03 with 55k miles for 15k the summer before car prices started plummeting. But sometimes you gotta pay a little extra to get what you want.

Just ran the carfax, it doesn't show any accidents. The car was a corporate car for almost 4 years and then next two owners each had it for a year. The current owner has only put a little over 1000 miles on the car since purchasing it. Pretty much all the maintenance was done at the same Honda dealership. Does anybody see any hidden flags with this information?

if its the color you want then its worth a little more. Bring him down to $14k because you gotta replace the rear bumper

Agree with above. 14k is a pretty good deal as long as you are happy with the "total" car. GL

I paid $14k for my 03 two full years ago, it had 43k miles on it when I bought it, but did have one body ding on the passenger's door (dimple the size of a dime). I think you can get it cheaper. $12k seems more reasonable.

OP, you might want to "sign in" at the Smoky Mountain Owners page and repost this info. Maybe one of those guys knows (or is) the owner and can provide some additional insight.

Thanks for the advice I will definitely be checking into the Smoky Mountain forum, that is where my "real" home is. The car is from out of state though, so I'll be making a decent trip to potentially finalize the details.

this is a really bad sign. current owner only had for 1000 miles??

the cutouts in the bumper are a really bad sign. questionable intelligence of previous owner. what other stupid things were done in car? clutch fried? over-revved? who knows
the succession of owners over each of the last years is a bad sign. why would so many people sell this car so quickly??

there are plenty of fish in the sea

run, don't walk.
