Still Looking.....
New to the forum but I also use Clubrsx a lot. I currently own a 2005 Acura RSX (DC5) as my daily but I am in the market for an S2000. Not as a second car but as a replacment for the RSX as my daily. I was stationed in San Deigo and needed a reliable easy to drive car for work and going back and forth between SD and Ventura every weekend. I got out of the Marine Corps almost a year ago and finally got a steady, relaible job so I decided to start looking again. I don't need a hatchback as I dont transport anything for work really and I am usaully the only one in the car. Also I've been longing for more horsepower and handling so obviously the S2K was my choice. Anyway I already know the technical differences between the AP1 and AP2 but I'm looking for personal experience and opionions when it come to driving these cars daily. I'll be frank this is my first stick and RWD car I plan on buying and I am not very good at driving a manual gearbox. Plus I learned it on the right side not the left when I was stationed in Japan. A few friends and I shared a crappy Skyline GT to get around in and I learned in that but I didn't get a chance to drive it much so I am not very experienced. I just really want to know which is best suited for daily driving and occasional canyon carving. I like both the AP1 and AP2 but the AP1 is cheaper that an AP2 in California but it has the oversteer issue and I am a novice when is comes to driving RWD so I don't want to tailspin out of control. Any input or advice would be greatly appreciated!
Welcome! I own an AP2, but have also driven several AP1's, and love both. Most agree that the AP2's are a little better as DD's due to the small changes and refinements, but plenty DD AP1's, as they really are pretty similar cars. The S2000 was also my first intro to RWD, and while it's different at first, you get familiar with it as you drive. I much prefer it to FWD these days. Most of the concerns you have - manual trans, RWD, etc., will fall into place nicely with some time behind the wheel. Just don't go crazy with it and do take your time to learn the car.
One thing that does make a big difference in on AP1 cars is replacing the AP1 wheels with (wider) AP2 wheels with good sticky tires. If oversteer is a concern, wider wheels will definitely improve that. The oversteer is a legitimate factor, but not a difference you'll usually notice outside of spirited driving. You'd love a well taken care of S2000 of either variety!
Also - Thanks for your service to the country!

Nice to see I didn't get flamed unlike clubrsx lol. Yes honestly all I want is low milage and a well cared for S2K. As for the wider wheels I got that covered I'll just pull my BBS LMs off my RSX and throw them on the S2K lol.

That should do the trick! Yeah as for stick the only thing I'm dreading is traffic

only complaint for me is the practicality. coming from a hatch, you really appreciate a bigger car when you have a s2k. great car for cali since weather here is mostly sunny. Also if you dont drive like an idiot, youll be alright. I have an AP2 and its my first RWD, spend money on tires. spun out once because my tires were bald and it was raining. If you are not big on creature comfort and you have a 2nd car, the S is perfect.
i drive my friends '06 rsx s sometimes, and wow it feels like driving a giant sponge! the s2k is 10x sharper and has such better shifter and throttle response its incredible, i used to love rsxs until i drove one, now i dont think i could love w one coming from the S.
