Default test drove an ap2 today

So i had my mind pretty much set on an my04 AP2. I went to go test drive one today. I'm somewhat disappointed to tell you the truth.

I thought that an ap2 was the way to go for me cause it had more torque and was more everyday driveable. THis car might have to become my daily driver.

Everything was great except that the vtec started at 6 and ended at 8. it goes by really quickly. I'm not sure really what to think, and I'm somewhat confused as to whether I really want an AP2. My other choices would be an 06 or an 03. I'm going to go test drive those before making a decision.

I like the car, but right now i'm thinking.. s2k..

so what..

I didn't like the 06, felt slower than my current 05 model (probably DBW)...anyway if you are going AP2 go with MY04/05 IMO!!!

I think VTEC comes in at around 5500rpm on the AP2. Cuz it stays in VTEC after each shift if you run the revs to redline.

I'm not sure if you were referring to AP2 or S2000s in general. But S2000 certainly isn't a car for everyone -- some people really do find it diappointing, while others really find it amazing. There are definitely aspects of the car that don't suit people's desires.

Anyway, let us know how your test drives go!

If you're looking for more power, there are many modifications that you can chase down that fit the bill. That said, most folks who've had the AP1 and moved to AP2 have been satisfied with their cars. I mean, in all honesty, the S2000 hasn't changed that much in 7 model years.

But fair enough. You're certainly entitled to your opinion. If you dig the AP1 and 9K redline, well, go with that and consider performance mods that might be too expensive on a newer S2000...

I probably should have mentioned that i did drive my friends ap1. I think it was a my01. That car felt more edgy and i maybe more of what i'm looking for. So we'll see. Now, I'm a lot more open to the my03 than I was previously.

Simple fact is that they're *all* great. The MY00 had some small flaws that were correctible with various TSBs. IMO, the MY02-MY03 are extremely reliable cars.

No matter what you choose, it's a win.

ap1 rules

Seriously, I hated this 05 yellow ap2 I drove, and I was torn because I loved everything about the S except the way it drove. But I found a deal on the S I drive now, and I have never been more happy with a car. I'm telling you there is a noticeable difference between the ap1 and ap2.

i felt the same way when my car hit 600 miles about the the 2nd cam. 6-8200rpms seems really short, especially with the gearing of the AP2 because before you knew it you either had to up-shift or slow down.

but after having the car for 6 months and driving my buddy's AP1 there are pluses and minuses to both. yes its nice to see 9k and have 3100rms to play with, but its also nice not having to constantly downshift to pass and a car that's a little more liveable as an everyday car. also, a sports car if your not fernando alonso can still keep you away from that 1100ft ravine.
