Thought I'd hop over here
Hey everyone, I bought my S2k in January (I was planning on getting a MKIV Supra later this year but, honestly, I like the S2k better) and I'm loving every second of it.
Here's the scoop: I was driving my Integra GS-R home from work one day when it died on the road. After some towing to various places, I decided to let the 'pros' look at it. I was told from the stealership that my head was destroyed, valves bent and holes in the pistons due to a broken timing belt. Total repair bill: Over $2,000. Disappointed, I towed her back to my house I loved that car. Lasted me for 5 years with almost no trouble at all.
So as it's sitting in front of my house, I decide to go car shopping for something nice and cheap, but reliable. I drive around to various places in my girlfriend's Accord, looking at some cars like Civics and Camry's when I come across a small town dealership selling a 2001 Honda Civic for $7.5k. I checked it out, took it for a test drive. It was okay, definitely not my GS-R in terms of handling or speed, but the price was fine and I just needed a DD for now. I'm heading back to the dealership to drop it off and give it some thought.
About a mile from the dealership I get a call from my buddy, who is also a car nut. He says, "Hey man, there's an S2000 sitting at Bill Marine's. It looked like it was in good condition." I said what the hey, a test drive can't hurt. Maybe I'll get a good deal. I head on down to the other dealership and look at it. NICE. 40,000 miles, near mint condition, 2001 silver metallic with red interior and black convertible top.
After an exhilarating test drive, I start dealing. It's near the end of the month, and I get the guy to knock off $1500 off the top to get a sale. Done deal. I go pick up my girlfriend and drive home in an S2000.
Later that week, I get a call from the same friend who referred me to the S2000. He told me to check out a local mechanic who specialized in Hondas to look at my Integra. I figure why not, a second opinion can't hurt. The 'Hondoctor" checks it out over the weekend. :drumroll:
BAD IGNITION COIL
The timing belt was worn but it wasn't the cause. So for $800 I get the ignition coil replaced along with a new timing belt, water pump, rotor cap, distributor cover, spark plugs, wires and topped off all of my fluids AS WELL AS found a leak in one of my coolant hoses and replaced it.
Now I have TWO perfectly operating cars! Instead of daily driving the S2k, it rests in the garage, awaiting for a perfect day, and the Integra goes back to its duty as a workhorse. Sweet.

You should use that DD in the winter (e.g. if you have to deal with snow and salt; like us Northerners). Congratulations.
