First thing first is to find a good HPDE group to run with that has good instructurs. If you're humble and listen to your instructor, driving on the track your the first couple of times is about as risky as driving down the highway. Where the risk goes up substantially is when you start to exit the "Novice" phase and experience situations which you, your car, and the other Mid- Novice to intermediate drivers haven't seen yet.

So, if you ask me....do it, but I just returned from the track.

Not sure where you're at but I had great fun doing events run by upstate NY BMWCCA and Porsche Club chapters.

That was 10yrs ago in my 911 and some were better run than others. I had some awesome instructors and some dead weight, most in between. Some better organized than others.

Don't regret doing any one of them.

Haven't and likely won't ever track my S2000 but did talk to an old contact recently and the issue these days is Run groups. The proliferation of 400+hp "Nannie" loaded cars has created a problem of speed differential.
An S2000 is a low powered "skill" car. A mixed run group can be no fun for anybody. I'm sure most Orgs have addressed these by now but I'd check.

Up through the esses, foot down with Finger Lakes scenery in the backgound is glorious and memorable
