Unfortunate way to have to join
Unfortunately I still do not have my dream car. I attempted to buy a 2003 36k mile car from Gillman Acura in Houston as it was nearby. This car is listed as Suzuka Blue but is wrapped in a matte pearl white and priced as a pristine car. After days of voicing my concern about the paint underneath they finally revealed to me that it is not pristine, and likely the redon it was just recently wrapped. They will dodge the question repeatedly until truly pressed about it. I would hate to see another enthusiast buy a car priced the way that it is only to find out that the paint underneath is cooked. Anyways, I suppose the search continues!
A wrapped cars look hideous as soon as any door is opened. Not sure what purpose wrapping serves other than hiding the body finish.
Nice blue car just appeared in an ad (here) earlier this month. Only 18 hours driving from Raleigh to Houston. (Easy two-drive.)

Its literally the only purpose it serves....its the reason it was invented.
Like saying "Sun screen is greasy shit. Not sure what the point of sunscreen even is, other than shielding one from UV rays".
Plenty of reasons to wrap a car and "hide the original finish". Not all of them have to be negative.
It doesn't absolutely mean the original finish is being hidden because its wrecked.
Its just a relatively easy, reversible way to change the finish.
If the finish is indeed good...a wrap would protect it. When one is sick of the new color, the preserved original finish is underneath.
Question for the OP though...how does the dealer know the finish is bad? Did they have it wrapped? Did they know the previous owner? Or are they just managing your expectations?

Lol...well...yes, putting an opaque wrap over something will hide what is underneath. Its a very obvious statement.

honestly, wouldn’t have posted it it didn’t seem like something was being hidden, i just didn’t want anyone to go in with the expectation that it was pristine, blinded by excitement only to find out it’s a mess underneath.

the sales manager directly disclosed to me that the pint underneath was not good, after days of asking about it. owner is the gm of the dealer and had had it wrapped “recently” to look cooler. imo it is skeevy to price it the way that it was, then do everything in their power to not answer the question. especially considering the car belonged to the gm of the dealership.
Dealers being dealers.
Glad you posted the heads up.
