Default WANT TO BUY S2K~!

Hi guys, I have been a member here for some time now and ive been checking out everyone's S2Ks. My "resonable" dream car has always been an S2000 and told myself that I will get one...

Well the time is soon coming, now that I'm going to graduate college soon, i'm thinking of buying one sometime next year (probably spring-summer).

Here is what i want:

I want a GPW S2000
I want a black interior
I want the 9K redline engine
Must have the ragtop w/glass rear window
Must have the aluminum trim center cole
Since im poor, can't exceed $20k price

here is where you guys come in:

I really really really like the style of AP1, 9K redline engine, and exterior. Not a big fan on AP2 exterior looks. BUT! I hate the fact that earlier models doesnt come with some of the "nicer" features the newer ones come with. Like the glass rear window, aluminum/leather center trim, better sound system, etc. I also hate the all red and tan interior, so I gotta have the black interior... like the 06 models.

The question is which model/year should I get??

I know many of you guys swap interior parts among other things in your garage and so on... but I dont have a garage, so i dont have that kinda of luxuary.

Should I just get a 01 S2K (which is the model i think suits me the most) and just buy/swap the parts i want? and suffer the less luxuaries stuff?

OR...

Should I buy the latest model I can afford (which is 04) and change out the engine for the 9K redline one? and the front and rear facial?

OR...

Should I get some other color S2K which comes with a black interior and just get a paint job to GPW? Like a 03...

which option do you think is best for money, time, and most logical?

or can you guys add anymore suggestions??

thx guys... i really like this community and hopefully soon i will be more directly involved!

I think you should just wait until you find the car that is perfect for you. I mean geez i waited forever to get my s2k i mean years and i found the perfect one. I originally wanted Berlina Black Or GPW but i fell in love with NFR. I also wanted an AP1 because of the Revs and the exterior looks. I would just tell you to get an 02-03 the ecu is tuned better and the glass rear window but you know these pros an cons im sure. I wouldnt settle for an 00-01 if its not what ya want just wait it out you will be alot happier in the end trust me good luck bro peace

sounds to me like you are looking for a 2002 or 2003 GPW S2000, and also somone parting out their black interior off of a 2004 or newer S2000. Swapping an engine for the color interior and color of exterior you want is not worth it. Just get the newer parts as you can and eventually you will have the car you were looking for originally. Good luck man.

thx guys for your inputs...

I was originally thinking of the 01 model because I like the red/black interior combo it comes with. I really don't like the all red interior (02) and tan interior (03) so 01 model suit me the best (in the AP1s).

from what you guys are telling me.... so now my question is this:

Should I get the 01 model which has the red/black interior combo i 90% like while suffering the ecu and glass window?

or

Should I get the 02 or 03 model which has the interior combo that is def. not my taste but has the better ecu tuning and glass window and etc.?

If i get the 01 model, is it cheap/hard to swap the roof and the ecu among other things?
If i get the 02-03 model, is it cheap/hard to swap the interior pieces??

keep in mind that i dont have a money growing tree...

thx guys for your helP~

If you were willing to scratch one thing off your "must have" list make it the glass window. A very nice feature for sure, but one that you will probably not miss once you have your car. Use the lack of a glass rear window as a bargaining chip when you think you've found the car you like. A new top with a glass rear can be found for about $700 so offer to split the difference ($350) off the price of the car.
I think once you have the car, you will soon forget that you thought you needed this feature , but you won't forget that you saved $350.

There are several other niceties the 02-03 features over the 00-01: stereo, center console, aluminum accents to name a few...

And besides, the glass window comes with a defroster (invaluable to some).

I seriously doubt that you will notice any problem with your 00-01 ECU. If this is going to be your only car then a glass rear window would be much more user friendly but, the plastic one if treated well will work fine. Fact is, as these cars age you will need to get a new top anyway so that will be your chance to upgrade to a glass window. I have had my car for six years and my rear window is perfect, I have no clue what I am missing out on with my ECU and all the other problems have been taken care of under warranty.
