Default wanting to buy an s2000

Hey guys, Currently i drive a 2000 s4 with many many mods to it. The car is getting to the point where i cant afford it anymore. My question to you is how reliable/ expensive is the s2000. To give you an example of my S4 the clutch work was $3500 dollars to do. I want something that is less expensive to maintain, and i thought because this IS a Honda it will be cheaper. Can anyone help me out on that

Total $1200 and some change.

Can't go wrong with the S, unless you need the room that your Audi has. You won't have to spend as much $ to keep up the S as you do with the Audi. If you go mod-crazy though, that's another story.

Engine is already tweeked out very well from the factory...If you want any real power gains you need to go F/I.

Looking for a new or used...?

If new then no worries...this is the sixth year this car has been in production...they got all the little bugs taken care of.

check the under the hood section...I have no problems with my car yet....but i believe the early model s2k's had some minor issues.

Mods....I hear gears and a test pipe are the best bang for the buck.

stay away from ap1's, the heads don't hold up. The honda is far cheaper than your S4. How much are the turbos to replace ? Probably less than a new s2000 engine...... hehe

Reliability is definitely top notch on the Honda. Parts would be cheaper than those of the European breeds too!

As for deciding between which year to get, I would say always get the newest that you could afford. If you are looking to get an AP1, then go for 2003. Check out some of the sticky threads and run a search about differences between model years (i.e. differences in 00, 01, 02, and 03 models). Here is an article about differences between AP1 and AP2 (2004 & 2005 AP2s):

Anyhow, good luck with your purchase!

s4stud, I completely understand where you're coming from. My Euro beast is EXPENSIVE in comparison to the parts for the S2. I initially wanted to track my M3 but after going through the costs of maintaining a race ready car, it would force me to get another job.

I purchased an S2 used 02' w/ very low miles 22k. I have recently purchased exhaust for it for 1/3 the price of the M3.
I would suggest getting a 03' AP1 if you can. The 02' has a glass rear window like mine but I believe not all 02's have them.

Are you planning on tracking the S? If so the Stock form is absolutely wonderful. I can say that without a doubt this car is a beast.
