Why I chose the S2000.
Hi Everyone!
I got a new 2007 Rio Yellow last week and I must say that I am really enjoying this car. This replaces my 2001 Mazda Miata Special Edition which I had owned since new, but was totaled a few weeks ago. I really loved that car and was sad to see it go. I did get a good pay out ($2000 over bluebook) and went looking for another car.
I first looked at the new 2007 miata with folding hardtop. Every Mazda dealer in SoCal wanted $3000 to $4000 over msrp and I had to wait six weeks for the color I wanted. That extra mark up put me in the s2000 price bracket. I did like how it drove, but I was having a hard time liking the new look. I couldn't figure out why a two seater car needs 4 cup holders either.
Test drove the BMW z4. It didn't wow me and thought it was too overpriced.
I then looked at the Nissan 350z (coupe). I found it to be a nice car with lots of options, but the ten dealers I visited in SoCal turned me off. No one had the color I wanted and ordering was not an option with any sales person (even the internet people). Every test drive ended with very unusually high pressure sales tactics (must be a Nissan thing). The last place I visited, the sales manager told me I was stupid for not wanting the white car they were offering me (I didn't want white and told them several times). I stormed out after being called stupid. The 350z also has 5 cup holders in the car!
As I was waking out of the Nissan dealer (very pissed off too), I passed a Honda dealer and saw a S2000 on display. I had been told this car was not a good daily driver because of the high revving engine, but I quickly realized that these people have never driven an S2000. I was use to high revving shifts from the miata so I did not find this to be an issue. I was truly hooked after the test drive. I loved the simplicity of the interior, the smooth shifting, the VTEC sound, and the insurance premium was the same as my miata when it was new. I shopped around on line and found a dealer in Gardena that had a yellow 2007, still covered in protective plastic from the delivery truck. They had the best price and they did not freak out when I said I was going home to think it over. Needless to say I went back the next day and purchased the car.
I hope this helps others trying to make a decision.

Congrats on the car. You'll love it.
Sucks that all the Nissan dealers you went to were a-holes. When I was looking at cars, I went to a local one, test drove a used Z they had, told them I wasnt going to buy that day and they never said one thing to try to keep me there. They were one of the first dealers I ever went to that didnt treat me like an idiot or like I was 16 so they scored major points in my book. Honda dealer was equally as great.

Welcome to the site! Thats a great story on how you ended up with the S. The first time I drove an S2000 was a used one on a Nissan dealers lot. They were trying to get me into a 350, which had just come out at the time.

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. I'm sure not all Nissan dealers are like this, but it seemed like the ones in Los Angeles, Venture, and OC had the same tactics. Either way, I would of never test drove the S2000 if it wasn't for the a-hole at the last nissan dealer.
