Yet another new owner
I’m another S2000 new owner. I picked up a clean Suzuka Blue 2003 last Saturday after searching awhile for just the right car. The drive home to SC from Atlanta was great, as was the trip out to dinner with my wife (who fell in love with the S in less than 5 miles). On Monday I left for a week long business trip in Seattle. The separation is killing me!
I have a long history with Honda. Back in the 1970’s, I was the parts manager at a Honda motorcycle shop. There I rode practically every Honda made since 1959, even owned an ultra rare 1959 C100 for awhile. I kept my 1980 CBX, which is now in the middle of a restoration. The race team I was on campaigned a CB400F superbike. It wasn’t the fastest bike I ever raced, but it was sure the best sounding! It was fast enough to take 2nd in class and 7th overall at the 30 Hours of Rockingham in 1979.
I have wanted an S2000 since they were first announced. When my 276K mile beater car’s head gasket started leaking, that was it. My wife asked what car I was going to get. Well, I told her, the only car I really want isn’t very practical, an S2000. She said that I ought to get one, her CRV is practical enough for both of us. I have a great wife!
The car I bought is nicely set up, with a shock tower brace, damping adjustable coilovers, new Contis and a decent radio/cd. Otherwise, it’s stock. It has been well cared for. Only one door ding in the whole body!
I am impressed with the handling and the motor. It is plenty quick enough to be entertaining. Next thing is to run some autocrosses to get to know how it behaves when pushed.
After only three days of ownership, I already have an S2000 story. Sunday afternoon I drove over to a buddy’s house to show it off. There were a bunch of folks out walking the neighborhood as I idled down the street. While passing one couple, the husband commented to his wife, “There goes the car I want to get!”.
