Default How do you like Jacksonville

What's going on Floridians?lol I grew up in Fort Lauderale and moved to Palm Bay to go to highschool. I've been in the navy for 5 years and I'm looking to go to school in Jax. The questions I have is how is the car scene? Is there a decent group of S owners? How's the night life? How's the girls out there? How's the girl to guy ratio? How much can I expect to get a one bedroom apartment for and how much for one with a garage? All and all would you say it's a good place for a single 25 year old guy?lol. I lost my ex wife to a deployment. If any of you have ever served deployment can break up a relationship easily. Just some questions to see what I can expect Jax to be like as I go to school.

Thanks,
Elliott

Welcome. I can't answer most of the questions. Lol

But. The car scene in jax is getting big with lots of nice cars. I shot tons of cars for magazines and blogs. That should tell you about the quality.
There are lots of us S owners here. it's just tuff to get them all in one place at the same time. Hah.

I've been here just over 2 years. Moved from Miami. I like it here a lot. I've met some good friends and good people in Jacksonville.
My wife and I are entertained by the great restaurants and bars in the area. SO if you like that sort of thing you will have plenty to do. If you like beer this is a great city to be in. Lots of Craft brewers and places to drink draft from all over the country.
The car scene is pretty active but not as much as other Fl cities like Tampa. As for S2000 owners, we try to have a meet every now and again. Sometimes we have nice turnouts and others not so nice. I think it's just a matter of timing.

I know a few folks rent with garages and should chime in soon.

Good luck. And let us know if you move here.

Thanks for replying back guys. I'll more then likely be moving out there because FCCJ has a trade program for bio medical engineering that I would like to get into. I plan on being in Jax for about a couple of years and then I would like to go back to the Orlando area to go to UCF. My get some "why didn't you ask your brother" but he is going to UNF but all he every told me is there isn't really much of a night life downtown. Guys hows the over all scene for cars?

Hey Elliot. Sorry about the ex and the deployment issue. I'm in the navy too. I live in Ga just north of the border. The people in Jax are great for the most part. I've met some really great people down there and I'd like to think that at least some of them are life long friends. As for the night scene I have no input. If you decide to move out, welcome and look forward to meeting you.

Hey Elliot,

My input on jax, well coming from Cali jax is ok. It's more laid back but there is always something to do. I served in the u.s army and got out and work for the navy and I'm currently attending fscj going for my as in computer tech. They have some good programs here for us vets; so I hope you use the benefits to the max.

As far as the car scene, it's picking up a lot. There are several car meets as well as racing. A lot of these owners here are very knowledgeable and a lot of us do our own work.

However, I can't elaborate on the female part. Lol! But I tell you this, the campus is full of females tho. Lol! You'll like it here.

Keep us updated when you arrive and be safe.

Bernard

I hated it here first. But once I met some good people I became very happy here. The car scene is a lot bigger than I thought it was. Again, it's all in who you know. This is a great group of people here to know. I can attest to that.

Thanks for all the replies guys and sounds like it's a decent place from what my brother tells me. He was telling me it's more of a bar scene then club which I'm glad to hear. Kind of helps that he goes to UNF so I can get my foot in the door to meet other people. Looks like I'll be getting out of the navy a little earlier. Should be in the area by October-November time. How far are most meets from campus?

I don't know where UNF is, but we have meets to cater to where everyone lives. We try to pick a mid point every now and again. or cater to someone that lives out further than most everyone else. just depends.

UNF is near Kernan and JTB. We split the meets between southside and orange park. Southside is about 5-10 minutes away and orange park is about 20-30 minutes. These are the two areas of town where a majority of s owners are (well atleast the ones that show up to meets). You should have no problem finding women- if Ryan can do it, anyone can lol. There are a lot of woman on campus (all of them).

As far as the car scene goes, I am not impressed with it. There are a lot of immature kids and then there is the hellaflush scene (also has a lot of immature kids). It seems like everyone out here is going toward that trend (I despise the hellaflush movement with a passion). I did discover a really awesome classic car scene a couple of weekends ago that I going to be attending more meets. Then there is Automotive Addicts- which is a nice show with a wide variety of vehicles- but that is once a month and Saturday morning.

I have been on two deployments so I know what it can do.

As far as club and bar scenes, I don't really know, I stopped drinking when I got out of the Navy ( I will have a beer every now and again). I hate crowds with drunken douches, which is every bar in Jacksonville. Every time I go out to the beaches or any heavily packed area, someone always tries to fight with me. If you are into the relaxed, craft beer scene, there are a lot of nice bars and breweries around town.

Hope this helps
