About Bulletproof
I have bought some items from BP, they are definitely trustworthy.
I understand the difficulty of importing and I am glad to see Ben is trying hard to shorten the waiting time.
If one day BP starts a new policy where one can pay extra to air the parts oversea, that will be great. Ben I believe a lot of us wont mind to pay extra just to cut the wait.

i hope mine is included in that as well, as i ordered my ASM plate at the same time as problem child. i have actually been calling about it as well.
i don't doubt your shipping protocol, but why is it that aj-racing could have gotten me that part in 6-8 weeks. i chose bulletproof because i could pick it up locally and it was a bit cheaper. what are they doing differently than you. i also ordered a mugen exhaust which was a 2-3 week wait. in other words everyone i assume gets this stuff from the same place, yet everyone has different delivery times.
i don't expect you to explain for anyone else, but it is just a mystery to me.
thank you.

your nice looking Mugen paper is being made at the moment.
It depends on a # of things. First off, most shops lie about leadtimes, simple as that. Not all of them, but many of them. I hear so many stories from my customers, its crazy. I dont know anything about AJ, so I'm not going to say that their quote was right or wrong. But many shops have a policy of telling their customers what they think the customer wants to hear, rather than telling the truth. Its simple really, shops want to close a sale and they figure that they'll just stretch the leadtime after they get their customer's money. I'm in it for the long haul, so that strategy doesnt make any sense for my business. I rely on my reputaiton and my customer's trust.
There is a local distributor for Mugen, so depending on where the exhaust is sourced, that's a different topic in itself. I can supply Cusco parts and have them ship within 24 hours (everything except the roll cages). Speed depends on the source.
For ASM, we deal directly with ASM's president. I dont know what AJ's deal is, and I dont really care what their deal is. I just do the best I can do for my customers and my business. Had I known that it would have taken this long for those radiator panels, I would have more strongly encouraged air freight of them. I dont think anybody saw those delays coming.

Depending on the supplier, I can often provide air freight.
Most people choose against it because of the rediculous costs when items are large dimensionally.
Keep in mind that with our faster container schedule, air freight only saves about 4 weeks. If a part is slow to produce, that production time obviously isnt sped up.
So a 3 month leadtime cuts to a 2 month leadtime with air freight. And a two month leadtime cuts to a 1 month leadtime.
The hidden advantage of air freight is that there is no potential for customs delays, which is one of the main potential pitfalls.

C-West's US distribution has been down for nearly 6 months now. MotoRex was the previous distributor of C-West in America, but C-West Japan is currently setting up C-West USA.
I'm in contact with the president of C-West USA and I'm awaiting the good news that they have officially opened their doors for business. Its hard to speculate when that will happen, but we're getting very close from what they're telling me.
As soon as they open up, we'll be able to get all of our orders filled quickly. They've told me that they've already imported two containers of parts for inventory, so it sounds like I'll be able to fulfill your order and everyone elses immediately after they open up.
Until then, it's the waiting game...

Very good write up and explanation. You are totally correct with the crazy air freight charges. Give you a quick example. I bought a 6 point rollcage from Bozz a couple years ago. I paid like $680 for the cage and another $600 to air it in. I got it in 3 and a half weeks. Only because it took 14 days to build it from scratch then it sat at customs for a week and then actual flight time. One day maybe. But right there I paid almost enough for 2 cages.
I have also noticed that some of the small shops will deal direct with the customer. So lets say you want the laser cut Goto Garage radiator panel for your Mugen intake. Well just call them up directly (make sure you have someone that speaks Japanese) and wire the funds via credit card or whatever. Then they will ship too you. Much faster. There are also several other shops that can bring in things in 3-4 weeks. Another example. I bought my Js Type V hood from BPT and got it in 3 weeks via airfreight. It went through Bax Japan then Bax USA. Airfreight on the hood was like $400.
I was also told Cwest USA would be up by the end of Summer or early Fall.

we ship containers every two weeks from Tokyo to Long Beach
My Yoko A048s took about 6 weeks to arrive from Japan, and my S2Rs with custom offsets took about 2.5 months, and air freight would have doubled the total cost. (These were non-S2KI vendors.) That's my only experience.
Ben- Is it possible to order something from Japan that isn't listed on your website?
