looks like the JDM NSX Type-S steering wheel with the NSX-R horn setup. I just installed my ASM steering hub boss earlier today and the fit and finish is amazing. I would take pics, but I'll wait til I re-install my Stack cluster.

I love ASM parts, and the ASM S2000 was the reason I got my S2000 in white.

Can someone explain to me why their parts are so expensive though? I mean yes they are probably better and have the pedigree, but they are REALLY expensive when I looked into it. I mean the coilovers are like $18000 for the top ones. You could buy another car with that money

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that they shouldn't be that expensive, as I have no idea what they should be priced, but why are they so expensive? Is it just because of the brand name? Or maybe because they don't sell direct here so we have to import them?

Just as the saying goes, "You get what you paid for." ASM has near OEM quality manufactured parts. This is one reason why ASM and Mugen are such highly sought parts. Their coilovers use one of the most high end dampers you can possibly get in the field of motorsports: Sachs dampers. There is definitely a JDM price tag on it, but remember the USD is very weak against the Yen now, approximately 1 USD = 80 Yen. Quality can never be the same as OEM simply because OEM quality exceeds all aftermarket expectations (R&D is in the billions in some cases). That is why people say, "When in doubt, go OEM." And then we go back to, "You get what you paid for..." argument again.

I'd like to reiterate that ASM, Mugen, Spoon, Amuse, etc. are companies that are highly reputable based on their quality of parts. That is the reason why parts are so expensive.

On another note, ASM is not free from defects either. Their exhaust welds and brackets break off from time to time. I suspect is the type of material they use. Mugen is the only aftermarket company that has quality exceeding that of ASM (reason why ASM uses a lot of their parts and modifies them).

Now I'm not trying to bag on ASM, in fact I would like to have almost everything in their catalog. Their quality inspection processes are amazing and I definitely know where my money is going towards.

Oh I don't doubt that they use high quality parts, but I mean they are really expensive even when compared to other JDM aftermarket parts. I mean Brembo is really well known for their brakes, but their brake kit is significantly cheaper than that of AP Racing. Maybe the ASM one is that much better I don't know, but that is an incredible price to pay, especially when you take into account how much the car costs. The AP Racing brake kit is already more than the OEM ceramic brake kit on a GT3, at least from the price an owner of a GT3 gave me.

ASM components use CMM machines to determine if the tolerances of their components are acceptable. That in itself is high dollar quality control. Brakes are subjective. I'm thinking ASM worked with AP Racing to come up with a tailored kit for their race vehicle that works specifically for their modified S2000. Any time you do that type of testing and one-off components, the price for those kits skyrocket. The OEM ceramic brake kit on the GT3 is a cheap upgrade, however the replacement components will make you want to toss your car into the river. Don't forget how many hands have touched those parts and how many pairs of paid eyes are used to check these components. Knowledge, experience, and prototyping costs more than the material itself.

With ASM parts you are pretty much paying for the cost of ASM going out to companies like Sachs and asking them to make parts manufacturers otherwise never would have made for our car, and then doing all the R&D work and modifications to these parts to optimize them to perform at the highest level. Just think about how much it would cost if you yourself tried to go to Sachs and asked for a one off suspension, and then said, "Hey I don't like these spring rates, let me try this, please re-valve the shocks, etc. etc." You'd need lots of track time, data logging with shock sensors, lots of tires, etc. and don't forget pro driver to take advantage of these amazing parts.

If ASM didn't offer a Drexler LSD, I wouldn't even know what Drexler is. Also in regards to the exhaust issue, I believe that's only on their old model 70. The new siren exhaust has everything reinforced significantly and will not present any issues even under hard tracking.

Oh yeah and our precious dollar continues to drop in value. It used to be $120/1 back in the day compared to $80/1.

just the other day, i was looking at my accumulation of my ASM parts. they are so well made. especially the siren
you have to give them credit for allowing their race car parts to be sold to the public.

i really need to start a build thread i am hoping the gt-10 bumper arrives next month so i can finish my03
