Default CF Hood

i'm gettin a CF hood within the next week and would like to know if hood pins are an absolute necessity. i have heard stories of people who didnt use them and have had the hood fly up on them and then i've heard people who have no problem at all without them.

It really depends on what manufacturers hood you get because some such as Mugen and Top Secret are equipped with an OEM-type hood latch.

I have the Top Secret cf hood and haven't had any troubles with mine using no hood pins and thats with speeds just over 100 mph.

But its your call really.

See...

Just keep an eye on your hood latch and watch for signs of cracking and stress because it won't just happen overnight, I have had this one for 3 years.

Did you have to remove your OEM airbox,in order to install hoodpins?

thats another good point. but also i have heard that removin the top of the airbox actually makes you lose horsepower? is that true? and because i was planning on the j's style and taking the top off for optimal air flow

I've heard several times on here that by removing the top of your OEM airbox you will lose some hp. I think its mentioned on the "ultimate NA tuning thread" on here.

I can't back this up as I have no dyno sheets to prove this however others on here should be able to.
