Default coilovers

i'm looking into some used coilovers. i was wondering what the lifespan of coilovers were? generally the same as stock shocks? worse, better?

the coilovers i'm looking at are at 20k. thanks for any help.

That really depends on the abuse that they have endured. Like any shock they will wear out in time and if the have seen really bad roads and or lots of track days they may not be in the best of shape.

Most brands of coilovers can be sent back to the company that built them and you can have them revalved (more difficult to do if its a JDM brand other than TEIN). Then they will be good as new

how much would ravalving cost? so 20k miles with "unknown" history could turn out to be a bust?

Rebuild depends on alot of factors.

What were the coilover used for, track or street? Some streets are worse then the track, but it all depends.

Coilovers depend on the spring rates and valving. Some lower end ones have lower valving and can't compensate for a high spring rate.

Just ask the questions before you buy. Its probably easier to just bu new coils. Rebuild is so much money per coilover, plus you need to ship the parts to the company. I mean if you spend 400$ in a rebuild all said and done and buy a used set up for about 1k or even 1,500, if you factor in the re build cost you have about 2k to buy something new and good.

If you buy them new at least you know they are in the best possible condition from the start.

As Guedo stated their is no set price for rebuilds and it is done on-site so unless the company is local you would have shipping costs and rebuilding costs to pay for. To me it would be more trouble than its worth, I would rather just pick up a new set.

The only way I would buy a used set if it was from a friend or someone who I could trust to be honost about the condition of the coils and what they have been through.

Good Luck!

That's a silly statement. You don't know what the application is nor do you know what CO's he is looking at.
