cooling options?

As for the vents, As long as it isn't letting cold air into the engine bay right on top of the header then it will be fine, but if they are cooling the header off, that's a big no no.
absolutely no air should enter the engine bay other than through the front grill. i hope that's what u meant.

yea, i was just talkin about the vents should not let air in. obviously the front grill lets air for the radiator and such.

Yeah, it works...but its a PITA to install it.

you'll need a dremel to do the install because you need to elongate some holes in the manifold bracket that mounts it to the engine block under the TB.

No you don't. The bracket has enough play in the mounting holes as is.

any opening on your hood will somehow work to some extent in cooling.
the real question is how efficiently does it let the old air out and allow new air in?


that's my illustration of airflow direction.
the first one is without any pressure build up before the air traveling over the opening of the hood. (the DIY hood)
the second is a louvered vent that builds up the pressure before traveling over the opening and releases the pressured air. the pressure is now much lower right behind the louver (where the opening is location) and thus the higher pressure air from the engine bay will diffuse out.

to understand the easier way..
air wants to fill in whatever space it used to fill in but was once removed from it (vacuum). broadly speaking, any air in the surrounding the 'vacuum' will rush in to fill in the empty space. this broad concept is used in cooling. how does this have anything to do with the louver hoods?

generally speaking, the louvers create a vacuum right behind itself. And what else is behind itself is an opening (in this case, the opening of a hood). the small 'bump' of the louver will collect and increase the pressure of the air and launch it up slightly (it gets more complicating, but that's the easiest way i can explain it). Now, what will fill up the empty space right behind the louver? this is where the engine bay air comes in to play. The 'launched' air isn't quick enough to come back and fill in the vacuum that it created. So the hot air from the engine bay will come up and fill it in. There's no way for it to go back in since it gets carried away with the unidirection air flow (since the car is constantly moving).

How long did it take you?
I didn't notice change on the temp gauge after the Mugen cooling mods and Hondata gasket, but after i vented my hood..I saw the temp gauge going down and up one bar. It took me about an hour and ahlaf to vent the hood with a friend.

are you experiencing cooling problems currently? the setup of the s2k stock is very efficient. each time we came off the track yesterday the fan wasn't even on, over 100 degrees air temp and 30 min run session...and this is without the secondary heat shield as well. of course if you do a lot of stop and go driving where temps under the hood rise due to lack of air flow causing you to bog down...well venting your hood is a good start along with the fan switch.

looking at your mods you have most of the regular bolt ons done. i'd look at maybe a set of stainless steel brake lines since your 7 year old lines are probably a little old. radiator hoses from samco look great and are very high quality, but a total pita to install. for the price of these mods though, you can buy a set of front pads and brake fluid for the track...so it all depends upon what your goal for the car is.
